Data connectivity advice?

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have an Octavia SE Technology DSG Estate with the 10” Columbus infotainment.

internet radio is unavailable. Can’t see the status of my data plan with Cubic to check it. Can’t see the shop to check my data plan - constantly ‘activating’. The wireless hotspot does work.

It all worked fine a week ago!

any ideas?

Does Apple CarPlay use the Cubic Data Plan?  Am I right to believe internet radio needs the cubic data plan?

thanks

Graham

TBH ive stopped griping about the system as it does the weirdest things such as wanting to change my vehicle settings every start. Wants to change backgrounds etc. Software is programmed to do something and do something. I hear the gripes are across the whole VAG group.

Internet radio , havent seen it ever work.  If anyone knows how to get it to work , please do. If the internet radio costs money ,, well **** THAT!!!

If you log in to the Skoda Connect Portal (https://www.skoda-connect.com) and click on Licenses you'll see whether your data connections/services are active and when they expire. I have three services - proactive service (SOS call etc), Remote Access (driving data, vehicle status etc), Infotainment online (Online map updates, online traffic information, etc). All active. However,  no mention of internet radio though it seems logical that it would need the infotainment online service.

My Apple CarPlay is connected to the car via bluetooth and wifi and so far happily streams Spotify, and Waze navigation - so presumably is using the car's internet connection. Whether that is Cubic or not I don't know - I contacted Cubic to find out what data limit there was (in terms of Gb download). Apparently, I don't have a Cubic service! Rather, they think it is the "We Connect services on your MMI" whatever that is... (I presume it's part of the first year connectivity bundled with the car, Cubic kicks in water if we choose to buy it. BUT that is only my assumption, and happy to be corrected if need be).

internet radio works just fine for me. No need for Cubic data plan, you just need to use your phone mobile data as a hotspot. Thats it.

Just make sure that you have unlimited data allowance. It eats it.

i did not check the data usage, but i am sure it uses less data than an average yt videos. Have 70gb allowance and haven't come nowhere near the edge, with heavy use of YT and other social media services.

Though you have to be carefull if travelling abroad and you have no free roaming data availabe.

Streaming music or internet radio doesn’t “eat” data at all.
