57 plate fabias with old and new body style?

Featured Replies

I'm curious...

I was looking at a 57 plate fabia for sale with the MK2 body the other day. Today, I noticed a very much MK1 fabia...with a 57 plate.

Does anyone know why this is? Did they swap production over partway through a 'run' or something like that?

I think I've noticed this with some octavias around 2004 / 5 as well!

Let me know if it's piqued your curiosity too...

Dealers still had some Mark 1's left over when the Mark 2 came out, they would have been encouraged to sell them quickly at killer prices, hence 57 plate Mark 1's and Mark 2's.

For the Octavia, Mk1s were still built right up until 2011, despite the Mk2 coming out in 2004.

Thats bizarre! They must have been popular!

I recently remember seeing a MK1 Yaris, on something like an 05 plate and it was the pre-facelift version, (Non teardrop headlights, ariel on the front of the roof, etc) That went out of production some time in 03. My guess is it was sold or stored, unregistered for a few extra years. Never seen another like it, though.

The Mk1 Octavia's were very popular with Taxi drivers and the like and I recall that was one of the reasons they remained on sale well after the MkII had been introduced.

They were able to keep producing and selling cars that met Euro 4 emissions.
