Scan: Steering wheel electronics fault (permanent)

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I need some insight.

I'm having issues with the cruise control on my Octavia 1Z5 (2 FL Combi), so I got a scan at my dealer. The scan showed that the 'Steering wheel electronics' are reporting a permanent fault. As far as I can research, that's the J0527 component. Can this be the cause of the cruise control failing? The cruise control does not activate at all, in any condition.

What does the J0527 (currently installed is 1K0953549CP) otherwise control? Airbag? Ignition?

I was thinking I'd start with cleaning the rocker as described on here:

But would I need to replace the steering wheel component anyways, when it's reporting a perm. fault? Also, the dealer said I need a 1K0953549CD, but that's almost triple price of the CP-version. Does the Highline version give any improvements apart of MFSW support, or can I just go for the midline?

Thanks!

To be clear, I think it's this module, which is placed kinda "under" the steering wheel column:
