Instrumental and Needle light

Featured Replies

Whilst having just the 'side lights' on of the car, I've noticed that the speedo doesn't light up; just the needles do.

Is there a way to illuminate the speedo whilst driving with just the side lights on.

Thanks.

I don’t think it is designed to do that, if it is dark enough to need the instruments illuminated, it will be dark outside as well so you need dipped headlights

Not sure why anyone would want to drive in dark without headlights on :D

As above, it’s a reminder that you should have your headlights on, and not be driving around in the dark with the parking lights on.

Just put the headlight switch in the auto position and you won’t get this problem.

Thanks for this.

I hadn't realised that Skoda call them 'parking lights'.

I prefer not to leave the switch on 'Auto' as it sometimes brings on the lights on sooner than I would prefer.

Are the 'parking lights' the same as the 'Daytime running lights'? It looks as if both are the same LED strip?

If you think the lights come on too soon, you can change this option in the lights section on the settings.

I am wary of the auto position because sometimes it doesn't bring the lights on soon enough. And yes, I have got it set to "Early".

The parking light setting is also controlled by the indicator stalk.

If you use that setting, and put the indicator to left or right, it will illuminate a light on that side when car is off.  Effectively a marker light for use if you park on the carriageway on an unlit road or lane.

Resurecting this thread; I have a 2015 Octavia - basic model, see my profile pic, so no auto light option and no ambient light detection. In fact there's nothing auto about my Octavia; I bought it because it was as close to "analogue" as I could get in the VAG selection of cars.

Recently, I began travelling a freeway with a short tunnel and while road signs recommend turning on headlights, it's not really necessary. In the instances I don't, the speed and tachometer needles are illuminated but not the entire dials. In my previous car, the dials and needles were illuminated all the time. I've searched the VCDS and OBDEleven sections here to find an adaptation to turn dial lights on all the time and found none. Anyone else have a clue?
