Loss of rear left tyre pressure

Featured Replies

Evening had car nearly 3 years and every month roughly i get a warning on the dash loss of tyre pressure rear left. When i check the tyre it has lost pressure so took it to tyre centre and they checked it found nothing and put a new valve in but problem continued. I finally bit the bullet and got a new tyre on saturday and they checked/cleaned the wheel for me but this morning i got the same warning message? Has anyone else had similar problem or any ideas to help thanks

?

After the tyre repair and checking and setting all the tyre pressures as you want them have you reset the TPMS?

I suggest you check for air leaks around the rim. You will need a big plastic container for the water, maybe 12 inches deep. Or do it in the bath. Rotate the wheel 360 degrees while the bottom part of the tyre and rim is under water, so that you can see all the air leaks. You might only get a slow air bubble forming, but over days and weeks what looks like a slow air bubble will actually add up to a lot of air escaping.

However, it does sound like you have a corroded rim where the tyre bead sits. This problem will need to be addressed.

You may want to buy a new rim, or at least a good secondhand one. All simply replace all your rims, or get them all refurbished.

If you have alloy rims, you could try using a wire brush to clean up where the tyre bead sits. But you can only do this with the tyre off the rim.

The 'Tyre Pressure Monitoring System'  that gave you a warning that a tyre had lost pressure (the circumference had changed since last set.)

Read the owners manual.

?

In 3 years of ownership have you never reset the TPMS or checked it?

There might not be a leak now, but if you are losing pressure still then @Carlstonhas covered that issue,

first reset the TPMS after seeing if the pressures when cold are as you set them at.

I had a similar problem with the tyres on my old mk1 Fabia estate and got the rims refurbished. At the time I looked up the problem online to find it’s a problem with other makes of cars. It’s caused by corrosion on the rims allowing the air to escape very slowly. If your new tyre did not cure the problem it’s probably the rim. Joe

I second this. - I had 1 rim that constantly deflated over a few days, I kept pumping it up every other day and didn't bother me. 3 tyres later still the same but I got a bottle of water in a spray bottle and sprayed it around the rim. Found out that it was from my valve stem but since this had been replaced multiple times I found it was down to corrosion on the metal causing it not to seal.

Maybe @casperladwill come back and tell us if the new tyre and valve resolved the issue as well as resetting the TPMS, or if the rims bead was the issue.

As i stated in my original post i had the wheel checked for a puncture and nothing was found. I blew the tyre up again last Monday and reset the tpms (as i always do to get the warning light off) and up to press all ok.
