Active cylinder management?

Featured Replies

hi all there is a 2020 skoda superb 1.5 tsi with next to no miles on the clock just up the road from me so i have booked a test drive tomorrow, question is this how gutless is this engine in such a big car?

I would think a 150hp 250 Nm turbo engine would manage just fine.

and economy kenny what are real world figures about 40ish

I found the 1.5 quite acceptable considering as it’s a big car but not heavy. But the old 1.4 was really impressive, felt that had a bit more get up and go but the 1.5 is still very smooth and efficient, it’s a competent engine now the kangarooing issues of the early ones are gone.

sasha what are these kangaroo issues?  and with me now retired i only drive about 3-4 k a year so i think a petrol engine might be better suited to me even tho i like the diesel torque.

The early 1.5 TSI used to be very rough and cough on pull away but they fixed that a while ago. That mileage you would deffo be better with a petrol and the new turbo petrols are really impressive :)

I had a Mk2 1.8 with the same power and torque. It performed fine. I also drove a 1.4 Kodiaq with the same power and torque. I was very impressed. Turbocharging has been great for petrol engines.

oh right, there is a superb saloon in silver 1.5 act sti 70 plate but it has a MANUAL:worried: transmission, it has about 70 miles on it for £16,700 in road range 6 miles from me , and you can drive on there private road, its on autotrader , what dou you think?

If you are happy with a manual, sounds like a deal :)

well i have been driving my berlingo van for 5 years that's a manual, but before that i had a hilux invincible with the auto box that had some serious creep but it was nice drive, long as the clutch pedal on this skoda isn't to tuff i will be ok, but for people commuting in slow traffic everyday an auto is a must.

on a side note sash do these 1.5 tsi have any dpf type problems?

The 1.5 does have a GPF but for town driving these have not been as bad as the DPF.

We had a 1.5 TSI ACT DSG Golf estate for a few days last year. 3 adults, a dog and the boot full of gear and it felt far from underpowered. Up and down hills with no problems even just taking it steady.

And our 1.4 TSI DSG Octavia estate with just 122bhp/200nm still pulls really strong with 3 adults, dog, boot full and 3 bikes in the tow bar.

phil that's really good news as there's no hills  near me,  i am going to ask them if i can take it for 24 hours, but i doubt they will let me do that LOL.

It’s far far from gutless, in fact it fairly quick and Torquay. I changed to a 1.5 TSi 150 DSG from a 2.0 TSi 190 and 95% of the time I don’t really notice any difference apart from the extra 7-10MPG I’m getting compared to the 2.0 TSi

Mine is okay, not going to set the world alight but quick enough. If I was frequently carrying many people and luggage, I'd get a diesel.

I average 36mpg in mine, all the roundabouts in Milton Keynes cripple the mpg!

Re GPF.  Since we are only getting towards 3 years since VW group so Skoda had to fit GPF,s to Petrol vehicles we do not know how it is going to be after 3 years old with a VW Group / Skoda with GPF.  There are some reporting issues already and a recent thread on Briskoda that links other Threads from 2018/ 19.      Some might want to price what Dealerships want to fit a replacement GPF on a car past the Manufacturer's Warranty period.      Thread in Octavia Mk3 section on increased fuel consumption with a car with a GPF.  There is a way of driving to clear a GPF. It is not the same as clearing a DPF.

EDIT.

We have a seat arona with this engine and manual.  Plenty powerful enough and we have had it loaded with 2 adults, 2 kids and a pile of related stuff.  I'd be happy to have it in a bigger car.  My inlaws have it in a Karoq and seem very happy.

36mpg.....wow i am used to around 50 ish thats rubish or do you boot it down the road do you think?

Our seat will happily get 40-45 in the right hands.  Lately it has been doing lots of short trips with little care to the economy so getting mid 30s.  There seems to be greater variation with this compared to a diesel.

I get about 42 mpg in my Superb 1.5 150 SEL Estate. I'm happy with the performance...

I have the 1.5 150bhp DSG estate, petrol ACT, it’s powerful enough, does the job fully loaded with mo issues.
