Panoramic roof - opinions please

Featured Replies

Anyone got a panoramic roof on their car?

How is it? Worth getting? Any issues?

Had one on my Passat. Don't have one on the vRS.

I liked it in lots of ways. Brighter, nice to have open in summer, kids can look out of it and I could see the kayaks on the roof.

Downside was it rattled towards the end of its life. Although I'm super picky about rattles. If you're not bothered get one. They are nice.

I also have one on my current Passat. If it wasn't part of the GT standard spec I wouldn't have paid for it separately.

It's nice but in reality I keep the sun shade closed most of the time so won't miss it when my Octavia arrives. Not worth the extra outlay IMO...

Had one in previous car a Yeti L & K, nice enough during the winter but no way would you want the blind open during summertime. I've seen in the past a mark 3 Octavia L & K in a showroom with the panoramic roof and couldn't believe how much headroom it took up. To get in the car I literally had to put the seat flat to the floor, which wasn't very comfortable; no such problems with the Yeti though. Some people seem to get leaks and rattles with these roofs as the cars get a bit older, which seem to be expensive to fix; not something that I would be willing to take the risk with.

I have one on my new vRS.  No problems.  Has separate capacitive touch/swipe areas to both open and close either the blind or roof.  I’m 6’2” and headroom is fine.

I have one on my new vrs Estate iV, really slick. Be careful that you don’t overdo the extras though, they are included in the overall price of the car and if you go over the £40k threshold you will be liable to the extra vehicle exercise duty plus £350 for 5 years!

I've it in my iV and I love it. It's a pretty personal decision, though.
