Where is the smartlink license stored

Featured Replies

Hello, I have a Skoda Scala 2019 with radio swing and I found someone who sells a bolero display. I would like to know if the bolero screen already comes with a license? It should be noted that the screen comes from a car, so it now "new". Considering you can't select the bolero upgrade without the smartlink option, it should already have it, right? Or is the license stored on another equipment and not on the display unit?

I know I will need to reprogram the unit because it probably comes from a car with different options than mine, but i already know someone who can do it.

If it helps, my current display is a 654035871A and I want to get a 654035869B.

When you connect the new headunit, component protection will kick in and disable various features.

A dealer can sort the component protection for you but ODIS will only reactivate licences linked with your VIN so at a guess, smartlink won't work :)

I don't know much about these headunits, maybe @pab567 can add some detail.

Unfotunately I cannot help, I don't deal with these units at all :(

Could you please explain what component protection and ODIS are. I have a guess, but i would like to know more about them. Thanks for the response btw

Component protection is designed to prevent theft of various vehicle components. Moving a headunit from one car to another will trigger it and it'll say "component protection active" on screen and disabled various functions.

ODIS (Offboard Diagnostic Information System) is the dealer OBD tool they use for diagnostic and repair. It can be used to remove the component protection warning assuming the item isn't flagged as stolen :)

Wow, thanks for the information. I didn't think a modern car has component protection considering the....size of the parts, but better safe than sorry ig.
