Back Washer Jet not working. TDI 1.6 SE 68 Plate

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I have just purchased a 68 plate Octavia TDI 1.6 SE. The back window washer jet does not seem to work. My front ones work ok. When I push the wiper stalk fully forward the wiper will engage but now liquid will come through. I also can’t see any jet outlet

Is there any quick checks any one can suggest of that I can look at before asking the garage to fix it ?

The jets can be blocked so you can use a needle to poke down the jets. Equally I would check the boot to see if any screenwash is leaking inside as the screenwash pipe may have popped off from the inside.

Do you hear a noise from the pump when actilivating the rear screenwash?

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes I can hear the pump working. Cant seen any wet patches in the boot .  I will give it a clean in a bit and see what i can do.

I will keep you updates

Rear jets get blocked all the time - if you live in a hardwater area, the problem is even more acute. Decent screenwash helps and unblocking the jets is not too bad.  Soak in hot water usually get the crud out.  Failing that, you can easily get new nossles from the dealer.  Its a minor design flaw [gets blocked easily].

So took it off and cleaned it. Same issue. It’s going back to garage to be fixed on Tuesday.

Thanks for all the advice.

MRO - This happens often. Take the jet off and then try the pump, if water squirts out its probably the jet has blocked up. Sometimes when you activate the pump some very dirty screen wash comes out.

Try blowing through the jets to see if they are blocked if you can.
