2.0 tdi oil pump balance shaft year 2008

Featured Replies

Hello,

Please any mechanics on here?

I have a 2008 octavia 2.0 tdi pd engine, I was advised to replace the oil pump balance shaft when I purchased the car.

I have just had a call from the garage, and they say they've been in touch with skoda and the car doesn't have a balance shaft.

Please does anyone know which engines were affected with the issue? I know VW fixed it at some point but I wasn't able to figure whether my car was affected or not. My car is 2008, engine code BMN.

I'm just utterly surprised as I have supplied parts from a company that apparently specialises in replacements of the faulty balance shaft and it was them who advised me to pick the right kit for the job, surely they would have told me it wasn't necessary if that were the case? 🤔

Anyone know which cars and models were affected?

Thanks

That issue didn't affect the Octavia engines.

As far as I'm aware the Octavia engine uses a chain driven oil pump, where as the ones with the issue uses a hex bar, which rounds off, causing said issue.

Only the 2.0 TDI fitted to the posher cars like the Superb and the Passat are affected.

That said, I'd be surprised there are many of those with the original oil pump drive still in place after all this time.

No need to worry with an Octavia :)

Thanks!

Great, so it took me nearly 3 months to actually get parts and to find someone able to replace it to find out it's not necessary, 3 months of worrying that it may go any day 😂 quite a relief even though I'll need to try to return parts to the supplier, could be an issue 😅
