Hey, Guess What? My phone pairs but does not connect - any ideas?

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

I finally got round to pairing my Sony Xperia L2 (Android) to my Columbus unit (repaired by RustyNuts - thank you) After much messing about it paired (yay!) but I keep getting a message on the MFD stating that it cannot connect.

I have no idea about sRAP, mobile phones, bluetooth modules and all that tech stuff - I just want my phone to connect so I can play some tunes (vital!) and integrate my phone into the system (voice calls and all that but not essential)

I know this has been dealt with many times and I've searched the forum but walk away more baffled than ever (what the hell is 'recoding a CANBUS'?)

Can anyone help?

Please...

Does the system find your phone? Have you checked phone settings, maybe it's not allowing connection?

If your bluetooth unit supports HFP (normal bluetooth) and rSAP is not required I'd suggest you try to connect with HFP.

Also, connecting for making phone calls and playing tunes have to be done separately through the MFD.

Thanks for the reply, which I would act upon if I had any idea of what it meant! 😁

I've successfully paired the phone via the MFD (it appears as 'SKODA_rSAP' on my phone) but it gives me a 'connection fail' message on the MFD.

I've tried to find out what Bluetooth protocols my phone has, but alas I've drawn a blank.

Can't blame you, bluetooth on the mk2 isn't very straight forward..

Take a look under your right hand side seat, you will find the bluetooth box under a plastic cover. Just slide it forwards. Check the part number so I can see if it supports the HFP protocol. Your phone will support it.

rSAP is old tech and I don't recommend using it.

Thanks bud. Will do. I suspect you're right about the rSAP thing and I may have to get an updated Bluetooth module!

No problem. I just upgraded the module on my car from 3c8 035 730 to 3c8 035 730 d. Required a cable from head unit to bluetooth unit but thats a simple job. Calls and tunes are working nicely. Only thing that's missing is I dont get current track on the screen and cant use buttons to control tracks. Head unit firmware might fix that but I'm happy with it as is.

Hi,

The module part number is...

5N0 035 730 D

I believe this is really old tech. Any advice on a replacement module?

If I remember correctly, that model should have HFP. If you already haven't I'd suggest giving this thread a read: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/189618-rsap-bluetooth-to-handsfree-sucess/

When you connect to your car does your phone ask for a permission to use your sim card (or something like that)? If yes, by declining the permission it should connect via HFP. This gives you the phone function. From the bluetooth settings on MFD you should find a section where you choose an audio player. This is where you choose your phone as an audio source and get them tunes.

The MFD menu is quite complex so I dont remember everything 100% but you should figure it out.

My mistake...

5N0 035 730 A (not D)

Then you need an upgrade. See what you can find at the wrecking yards. Ones I can definitely recommend are 3c8 035 730 D and E. Earlier versions of the 3c8 (A and onwards) should also work but may be slower to connect etc. Most likely you'll also need to add a wire from the bluetooth unit to the head unit to get stereo audio. Once again, it's a simple job and I can give advice once you source the new unit.

Units starting with 5N0 and ending in D or above should also work but I'm not sure about those.
