Towbar electrics.

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Had a detachable towbar fitted this morning by a local well respected company. The company used 7 pin dedicated wiring and coded accordingly. Now left with a warning that front assist is not available.. Not happy any ideas ?????

Take it back?

Did this come up straight away or some time after? I have heard that coding on the Mk4 is somewhat different to earlier versions.

It came straight up.

First question, is the front assist error always on?  I get it occasionally and the it’s gone the next time it starts.  I had a towbar done and it took them hours to recode the car, they had to keep my car for a week, going into each element individually to make sure it worked with or without the trailer connected.  Mine is a wesfalia detachable with 13 pin electrics.

I’ve had no issues since installing except for the regular software glitches for which the car is going in on the 20th for an unknown period of time to be investigated.

My towbar fitter said coding shouldn't be an issue with the Mk4  but following other issues highlighted on this forum he's going to check with his diagnostic supplier on Monday. Ref the previous post, holding the car for a week is worrying.  If I ever get my towing weight plate issue sorted (another subject!) the coding could be the next hurdle! Interesting what your towbar fitter has to say about the warning.
