When changing the Fuel filter on the CR Diesel engines it seems the recommended way is to purge the new unit via a VCDS system. As the software is £ 200 plus makes it expensive. Is this essentially correct or I was thinking to arrange a auto electrician to do this part ?

If it's anything like a PD engine just cycle the ignition off/on half a dozen times and you'll be good.
