Creaking over speed bumps

Featured Replies

Getting a consistent creak over speed bumps on our MK2 combi.

Sounds like it is coming from the passenger side footwell so I guess it is a suspension bush.

What are the options if this is the case? On smaller Ford's with chocolate bushes, I used to replace the entire track control arm but is this necessary on the Fabia?

Thanks in advance.

More likely the ARB bushes.

Thanks. I'll take a look. I have sprayed them with silicone before but maybe that was just covering up the problem.

Try the front spring these crack right at the top of the spring in the wing mount or in the strut cup halfway down the strut right at the end of the spring coil, sometimes you can see the crack if you jack car up and let the strut hang down and use a strong white LED lamp,  other times you need to remove spring to see the crack, this is the most common fault but creaking has also been know to come from the wishbone bushes or sometimes from the track control arm, but this usually is more of a clunk rather than a creak from the control arms,  wishbones bushes can creak as they start to fail but norally you can see them starting to twist and crack but still worth a look

Did have a funny one once the front strut inside the coil spring had a plastic type bellows and that had disstorted and was rubbing on the spring when the car went over speed bumps etc had to use a couple of zip ties to keep it straight and not let it buckle stopped the noise so my mate was happy
