Milltek resonated v non resonated v road plus

Featured Replies

Hi all can anyone help me, I am looking  to change the exhaust on my vRS and Milltek seems to be a good option but I am torn between the 3 options available

from what I can understand non resonated is the loudest, road plus is in the middle and resonated is the quietest but has anyone fitted any of these and what are your thoughts

i want to add more sound (the stock is too quiet) but not too much to annoy the neighbours and wife!!!!

any advice is appreciated

@Crazydragon - As Ords helpfully pointed out above, there are multiple threads on the forum about fitting aftermarket exhausts to the VRS.

In all honesty, there's very little variation in changing the tone of the EA888 engine between different aftermarket exhaust systems (e.g., Milltek, Scorpion, Remus etc) heard from the back of the car - but they are all significantly louder than OEM. Pops and bangs can be gained from remapping, and/or minor sound gains with a non-resonated system.

However - a word of warning re: non-resonated - given your statement above and not annoying the neighbours or wife, from experience I WOULDN'T advise you go for non-resonated.

Granted, it does sound awesome outside the car. But the Octavia has very little internal sound deadening and the drone from the non-res'd systems is pretty unbearable for any length of motorway / long journey.

I know, as I had a non-res'd turbo-back (i.e. plus bigger downpipe) Scorpion system on mine for 3 months before I bought the resonator for it; having done weekly trips from Sussex to Birmingham for those 12 weeks 😅

Resonated might be the 'quietest', but it's all relative! 'Quiet' is still a lot louder and more fruity than the OEM setup.

@Ads230 That is brilliant advice - thank you, that is very helpful. I think I am going to steer away from non-res as I am not sure I can put up with droning from car and the wife!!!! I am torn between resonated and road plus systems now, I have found videos of resonated systems but cannot find any videos or posts/comments from anyone who has used a road plus system

In all honesty, it's the first time I've heard of "Road+" mentioned anywhere regarding Miltek's exhausts, and I can't find more information on how it differs between Res & Non-Res on their website.

It may be worthwhile calling them up to ask them what the differences are (both in terms of noise and actual mechanical benefits over the standard Res system). I called up Scorpion before I purchased my exhaust and they were fantastic at explaining all the info about both systems and pros/cons of each.

Hey everyone, thought I'd chime in as I had a milltek exhaust fitted a number of months ago. Was initially trying to decide between the res and non-res systems and stumbled on the SSXSK26 system, which I'm pretty sure is the road+. The main difference between all three is the non-res obviously has no resonators/silencers, and the res system has two (one at the front and one under/near the back seat before getting to the mufflers at the back). The road+ only has the front resonator and a straight through pipe instead of the second resonator/silencer under the back seat. Bit of mild drone still at low revs but much better note overall.
