New Octavia 1.4 Hybrid Estate.

Featured Replies

I am in the process of buying a Octavia Hybrid...   I must say that I was taken aback at the documents sent to me electronically to sign as if taken for granted.

They want me to sign for 500 pounds worth of Gap insurance.

Also hitting me with £80 customer admin fee

and £250 worth of lifetime Auto glime polish?

They can take a hike at the Gap insurance but what do you think about the others....I just felt a bit let down that a dealer would expect me to sign this without discussion..

I would appreciate your views.

Hi.

Just to let you know that we offer a 12 month product called Total Loss Protection. Whilst it's not exactly the same as your traditional GAP insurance we feel for some customers it can make a cost effective alternative.

Please feel free to take a look if you wish.

Regards,

Say “No Thank You” to all 3.

It’s a common ploy from salespeople.

GAP insurance is readily available for less in the open market. I’ve used Direct Gap in the past for £124 (just an example).

The polish trick is utter, utter nonsense.

Tell them where to stuff their Admin Fee.

Tell them you want a simple upfront single cost for a car.

Chancers all!

Can you guess I don’t have car salespeople on my Xmas card list

Hi Biggles, was there any explanation for the Admin fee? I suspect chancing it as BoxerBoy says. Just tell them no.

@Biggles33

Is it John Clark Skoda Aberdeen that has a salesperson trying to bump up their commission on the 'extras' they can get you into?

Hi Roottoot..    No,    actually its not John Clark Aberdeen as I won't deal with them as they have scammed me before and even the sales guy hung up on me last week as he did not have a demo Hybrid electric...   I bought my last car a Karoq from Car Wow in  England  as will not use John Clark Aberdeen...  ..    So went back to Car Wow  thus they gave me John Clark Dundee ,   so I thought I would give them a try........?mmmmmm

Thank you guys for all your helpful advice I appreciate it...

£500 for GAP insurance on such a vehicle is extreme to say the least... by comparison I'd expect our 3-year Invoice GAP insurance policy to be somewhere around £150 - £170 in total (using discount code BRISKODA10).

I don't know to be honest... It looks like it aswas taken aback at these extras which they just expected me to sign.....I thought I was just getting the order invoice, so I felt a bit misled and annoyed.

I appreciate the frustration... on the subject of GAP insurance specifically, that they did this is really quite interesting.

It's been illegal since September 2015 for a motor dealer to both introduce GAP insurance to you and conclude the sale of it on the same day.  There has to be at least two clear days between them providing you with the "prescribed information" about GAP insurance - this very specific information is supposed to detail all the main features, benefits and exclusions along with an instruction that GAP insurance cover is optional and can be purchased from other providers - and them then concluding the sale of a policy with you.

E.g. if they first introduce the topic of GAP insurance to you on a Monday, it would be Thursday at the earliest before they'd be legally permitted to raise the topic of it again with you.  Although, you do have the right to waive your option to wait until the Thursday and if you wish can instruct them on the Tuesday or Wednesday that you wish to purchase cover but, this cannot be through encouragement from them.

Sadly... the attention that motor dealers have been paying to these rules since 2015, has been lacking somewhat

It was Friday afternoon when I paid a deposit...It was Sat afternoon when the email came in with several documents allwanting extra insurance on wheels,    paintwork  and Gap.... I thought it was just an invoice as I was expecting  to just sign..... with NO Discussion or info at anytime from the dealer other than sign the paperwork.     I fell out with them on Monday and have not heard from them at this time/ since....Even though the saleman boss was going to phone me.   Still waiting..... and I am not going to phone them...Do they want a sale or not?   So they have my deposit but I have no idea if I have the car or not ordered..... ..   Now that is poor form I think   ?

That is very poor, consider, if this is the way they are acting even before the sale is completed, what will they be like if, heaven forbid, you have a warranty issue once you take delivery?

Personally, i'd ditch this dealer (name and shame) They certainly do not deserve your custom. Do you have other dealer options?

Tomorrow it will be a week since I ordered the car.......I think?     I will give them till tomorrow to contact me as the car could arrive within a week from the port..    I also see that the Gap insurance they asked me to sign was well overpriced....     Thanks for the advice

As someone who has just gone through a rejection, I would advise you don't deal with them. A good dealer is vital if the proverbial hits the fan

I've just joined the forum and have seen the comment about Autoglym and GAP insurance. Both are too expensive from the dealer - it's their 'toffee' with inflated profit margins. I have GAP insurance from ALA via Honest John for a 10% discount. They are good because if you change your car before the policy runs out they will add the remainder to the next policy. The original Honest John site went into administration early last year, so I don't know if the new owners still offer the deal. Autoglym Lifeshine is too expensive. I used Autoglym polish on the car and protected the upholstery with Scotchguard at a fraction of the cost. I also had scratch and dent cover for one car, but it only covers supermarket dents, its very expensive and Mr Chips (or your dealer's own dent repairer) will be much cheaper per dent.

That's still a high price. If that's something you've taken out recently you may still be in your cooling off period (even if you're not, with a cancellation fee to pay you could *still* save money).

Check us out at https://gapinsurance.co.uk/skoda/ for a quote to compare.  Code BRISKODA10 will grant a further 10% discount too.

Thank you for the info. 👍Pedro
