More infotainment troubles

Featured Replies

I'm still enjoying my new VRS despite all the annoyances related to the Infotainment system, which in opinion (and that of many others it seems) is badly designed, slow and unreliable.

I thought I'd perhaps share my latest problem and the solution I found - in case it helps anyone else.

We were out yesterday and it was all working fine, until I stopped for petrol just before we got back home.  When I re-started the engine after that, I saw several unusual things:

  1. A big message in the left hand dial saying "Error: Emergency call.  Please visit workshop.", which disappeared after a few seconds.
  2. A small warning sign showing the letters SOS and a phone symbol.  Interestingly, when I looked this up in the PDF handbook, it didn't seem to be listed, so I could only guess what it meant
  3. A small orange warning triangle at the top of the display in front of me
  4. The Infotainment screen displaying the message "Loading settings..." for ever.

After I got home I attempted to investigate these symptoms which were all consistently the same.  The "Loading settings" message remained indefinitely.  I also noticed, when I looked at the Skoda Connect app that it wasn't receiving data from the car so the mileage etc. was showing for an earlier trip and the car was showing as unlocked, even though I knew it was locked.  I tried a soft-reset of the Infotainment but it came back exactly the same after restarting.

There seem to be many reports of similar - though not identical - problems on both Skoda and VW related sites and in some cases the solutions have been drastic, involving replacing hardware.

However, I did read one report that suggested that pressing the emergency call button could reset it.  So, I tried this.  I pressed the button and nothing happened.  But I then tried resetting the Infotainment system again and this time - as soon as it had restarted - a loud voice announce that an emergency call was in progress and I could cancel it by pressing the button again, which I did.  Then - and only then - the whole system seemed to sort itself out and it's all working normally again now.  And the car is communicating with the Skoda connect app too.

So, I thought I'd describe this in case it helps anyone else.  But of course the whole experience has further dented my positive feelings for a car that I otherwise really like a lot.

That screen needs a clean 🤣

The warning triangle is just warning you of the fault you already know about. Electrical gremlins, hopefully you'll never see it again

with obd eleven i deleted all the faults. there was u huge number in some modules , like electrical system, dasboard, battery. clima etc... after buying rs. now there is none . Ofc there is still no cahance to make some code in apps.

i had the same problem with SOS errors. Received a new SOS module and the issue is gone.

  • 1 month later...

We have this problem, but initially only when I was driving. Trying to get it to error to show my husband proved difficult as it never happened when he was driving it alone.

Recently it has thrown up this error (and random sat nav issues) when we have both been in the car and my phone had been connected.

I have a Samsung phone, he has 1+ android phone.  Is it just affecting Samsung phone users?????

I doubt it's to do with your Samsung phone @JWSkoda, it's likely all the different bits of tech inside the car not working well together. I had the SOS warning on constantly when I picked up the car, taking out a couple of fuses (19 and 30) for over 10 minutes has cleared the error entirely. Other folk with other issues have also disconnected the battery for a bit and this seems to have cleared the errors.

Yes, the issues clear after it's been switched off for 30 mins or so  but recurs  regularly and only when my phone is connected (via Bluetooth or cable)

I had the same thing again today (only the second time) - same symptoms as in my original post.  So, again I pressed the SOS button then restarted the Infotainment exactly the same as I did last time, and it was back to normal within a couple of minutes.

My car's going in for a software update on Wednesday so I'll see what difference that makes, if any.  There's also an OTA update happening right now but they never seem to change anything, so I'm not holding my breath for that one.

Identical issue with SOS, went in for software update last week but this was for another system, they are still awaiting the software fix for SOS glitches and have advised they will contact me when it’s ready for my vin number. I am just going to try your suggested fix as the infotainment system has been constantly trying to update settings for over a week.

What a star! Just tried your suggested fix and all now working, let’s see how long it lasts. Thanks again alancha, by the way which garage workshop are you going to? Mine went into Fareham branch…

AndyT60 - glad that worked.  I hope it lasts a while for you - in three months & 5000 miles it's only happened to me twice, so now I know what to do, it's not too big an issue.

Mine is going to Marshall Skoda in Newbury.  I booked it in a couple of weeks ago, before I knew (as mentioned on another thread here) that there's a big update due any time now, so I don't know whether I'll get that or just miss it.  I'll report back after it's been done.
