Reconditioned Gearbox

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a loud knocking noise coming for my Skoda Octavia 1.6 2012 145,000 miles and after having it looked at, I have been told that the gearbox requires replacement.

I bought a used gearbox with 70,000 miles on it with 3 months warranty. However in two minds if I should fit it wilth a new clutch or get a reconditioned gearbox?

What do you guys think?

Only I drive around 10,000 miles a year.

I have had a few quotes for reconditioned gearboxs and it about 800 plus 250 fitting.

Thanks

It depends on who reconditioned the gear box and what the reconditioning  constituted and how much cheaper the used box is. Changing the clutch and flywheel would be sensible while every thing is apart.

As above it makes no sense not to put a new dmf and clutch in while the gearbox is out especially if it is still the original at 145k as you will save on future labour costs

Would have expected the noise to be from the DMF rather than the gearbox.

I guess you will find out once they get the box removed.
