Seat comfort for shorter drivers....

Featured Replies

I'm of a fairly average build and height, but I think the point about DSG  is an important one.  I also had a manual Octy II and in my case even after 10 years was never happy with the seating position - to be OK for the clutch I was too near for the brake (and  lesser extent accelerator).  Our Superb is a DSG and I've found it massively easier to set-up to an "OK" position.

The better half is 5'3" and agrees with the above.  The same (but to a lesser extent) was true when we switched her car from a manual  Alfa to an automatic*  LEAF - the LEAF was much easier for us both to find a comfortable position.

*Probably not important on this forum, but not strictly an automatic as the gear ratio is fixed, but it does only have 2 pedals.

Hi Unclerichy

Living in nearby Suffolk I understand what you mean about those Norfolk autobahns (that'll be the A11 and A47 for folks that aren't familiar with the area)

So with your non-Sportline seats, do you find that you slide from side to side on the seats (pies not withstanding)?

@TheITGuy My route was A47/A148/backroads yesterday as I was up near Cromer :)

I can't say I've ever noticed myself sliding around even when whizzing round the smaller roundabouts. And no, I don't have a massive backside that overlaps the sides :D

Strange double-post

Another thing to add to my previous comments is the body control of the car. I find if the car I'm driving is overly rolly then I get much more tired and I find it harder to get comfy. I have just fitted spring assisters as a temporary measure while o go back and forth emptying my late father's house. They reduce body roll greatly to the point I don't want to remove them. Not a good long term solution so I've started looking at rear roll bars.

I am only 5'6" myself and can hardly be described as thin and I have a DSG and although my car does not have the 'Sports-line' bucket seats I do not find it a problem getting a comfy driving position.

Thanks everyone again for your helpful comments.  I'm pleased to hear that shorter drivers are finding non-Sportline seats comfortable as my preference would be an SEL or L&K.

Hmm, I'm 178cm, around 90kg and I never truly got comfortable in the Superb L&K seats.

Always had to adjust and use the "massage" function to make it somewhat okey, drove my car for 87"miles over three years and always had a soar back after longer journeys (1hour +).

That differs from all the other divers here that finds the seats really comfortable.

What I want to say - ask for a loaner over a day or two and take it for a longer trip, no one's body looks like the others...
