EPC light came on and stayed on

Featured Replies

A couple of weeks ago, the EPC light came up while I was driving.  It stayed on for about 2 days. During this time, I arranged for the car to go into the dealer to be checked. Once I had made the appointment , the light went out and has stayed out once the engine has started. The visit to the dealer was booked for next week so I have cancelled that as it seems unlikely that anything will have been recorded.

When the light was on, it did not seem to make any difference to the performance of the engine.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

What engine?

1.5 Euro 6 petrol engine (MY19)

Might still be worth popping in as fault should be stored. if fault doesn't recur after a few starts then light goes out.

just checking - had you recently filled up with petrol when the light came on?

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I think I had recently filled with petrol.

So what is the significance of a recent fill up?

Did you stop filling at the first click off point? If you continued to brim the fuel tank lots, i.e. grossly overfill it, then its possible/likely that the EVAP system and its carbon canister have been flooded. That will put the EPC light on as the vapour recovery system is compromised and cannot function properly. If you're lucky, the carbon canister will dry out, the EPC light will go out and all will be well. If you're unlucky, you could be looking at an expensive repair.

Our 1.5 broke down Friday and has been recovered to garage with a fuel pump/control unit fault. EPC/EML on. Don’t rev over 4000rpm message and start/stop deactivated. Ours is MY21.

This happened to me just after I bought my Superb 1.4tsi. Filled up in Luxembourg with lovely cheap petrol and being from Yorkshire went past more than one click. Light popped up sometime later for a while, as per OP it went off after a few starts. It was checked out by a German Skoda dealer - always stop at first click now and it's never done it since.

we had the epc light come on every so often with no noticeable difference to performance.

called Skoda assist to it and it turned out to be a failing cam sensor.

get it looked at

Thank you for the useful replies. I stop at the first click when I fill up so it shouldn't be that but seems more likely to be a failing sensor. I will watch out for the problem again and take it to the dealer.
