Coolant drop to minimum after 4000km

Featured Replies

@KenONeillThe coolant in the radiator will not get colder than the air temp.

Your tears might freeze.

Choose your antifreeze or have the ratio to suit the coldest temps that the ground or air temp will go down to, you will find the tables showing what is needed.

If -25*oC is enough then do not worry about a ratio that is needed for 20*oC or even 25*oC while driving at 70 mph into a head wind.

Best have -35*oC though incase the forecast is wrong or you are in a cold trap.

... because the coolant is not being evaporated by the airflow as it's inside a sealed environment, it's the latent heat of vaporisation that causes the temperature drop, so no vaporisation = no cooling.

There is cooling, and cooling down to the ambient temp just not lower than it.

Next time it is bellow 0*oC @KenONeillwill hopefully dangle the thermometer end in the coolant once it is cooled and see if it is any colder than the ambient temp outside the vehicle.

hi, i went to the skoda house to check the cooling system, they exerted air pressure and removed the engine cover to see if there is a leak and they found nothing.
since the car was hot the coolant level was at the max level so he told me here is your coolant level is good and there is no problem knowing that when the car is cold in the morning the level is at least but he didn't want to believe me -_-

See if the level continues to drop over time, below minimum. You may find that it does not drop any further.

Is it petrol version? I don't know for diesel, but for petrol it has an issue with valve/pump housing, as well as some rubber sealing which needs to be replaced too. I have the issue, noticed drop after 2 years of usage, and it is really little, not as yours. Friend of mine has 245, it also has this "feature".

Seems like common thing.
