num. plate lights on when passenger side parking light activated

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've read a couple of threads on here regarding this issue but none had a solution -

when the passenger side parking light is activated, the numberplate lights come on as well. I noticed this the other night, as my pass. side rear sidelight wasn't illuminated, yet the numberplate lights were. I started taking the rear light assembly off this morning but before I'd even fully unscrewed it the red light came back on (must have been dust / loose connection) however the numberplate lights stay on, but only for the nearside.

is this likely to be a crossed wire / short circuit somewhere in the loom towards the back of the car? I haven't noticed any other untoward issues and am happy to leave it as it is as the parking light and 2 numberplate bulbs can't use much battery (it always starts right up in the morning when I've left p-light on anyway)

this is on a 59 plate fabia 3 estate btw

Mine does the same, and I started to remove the non working number plate light too before realising it's designed to work that way. As far as I know just showing sidelights on one side of the car is not legal in the UK as all sidelights must be illuminated if used.

Typo

The Parking Lights on the roadside front and rear of the vehicle (& one reg plate light.)  Is legal in the UK where you are required to have Parking Lights displayed.

Side / Position Lights are not 'Parking Lights' for having a car at a roadside stationary where 'Parking Lights' are required.

They can function as Parking Lights, and that will be when the ignition is off.  Lots of cars can not have 'Sidelights' on if the keys are out and the car locked,

but they can and do have 'Parking Lights' which can be on, this is all part of Construction & Use, & meeting EU / UK legislation etc.

The RAC so then The Sun and others keep going on about it being illegal to park without having 'Sidelights on'.

Then they go on about Low Energy Use etc etc and how they will not flatten a battery.  Well just Front & Rear & Reg Plate lights on can have a Fabia Battery flat if on from Lighting Up time / Darkness until dawn / Day Light time.
