EPC and engine light- on again after repair...pi

Featured Replies

Hello

Really not sure what to make of this and what to do now:

we intermittently had the EPC and engine light come on since Oct 20. Car driving normally though and whenever we got a diagnostic from garage nothing came up. We were told to wait till something develops. Last week something did develop:

Welcome to the forum.

You will need to actually say which Car as in Engine & Gearbox.

?

As it had servicing and maintenance, and consumables replaced, and how many miles and how long have you had the car?

?

Was there no Fault Codes when the were doing the diagnosis.  Is that because they have not got the correct equipment?

?

So was there no repair.     Did they just clear Fault Codes that they did not know what they were indicating was the probable issue?

Sorry, send message before I finished typing :drunk:.

We noticed on the motorway that the car wouldn’t accelerate as usual and when we stopped the car it had list throttle, completely. The rescue guy did a diagnostic  and a code for throttle pedal came up. He was able to clear the fault and we drove 4miles to our destination (car seemed fine). We since had the throttle pedal replaced but  within 5 miles of garage the EPC light and engine light back on again.

we were hoping to drive back to London (400 miles) today but not sure that’s safe- garage closed now ☹️

Ok so a Mk2 Fabia.

But what engine, Petrol or Diesel and what size. Manual or DSG?

If a Fabia Mk2 vRS then you will see threads in the past 2 weeks in the first pages here that will give you some sort of idea.

Sorry: it’s a fabia SE 12V, first registered in 2013, we bought it last year. Regular services.

Maual and petrol- sorry I am not muchbof a car person as you can tell.

OK.

So it needs the Fault Codes read if there are any.    The place that did the work will need to check more as they guarantee their work.

How many miles has the car done, and has the services been anything more than Oil & Filter changes.

When did it get new spark plugs. or has it needed and had ignition coils replaced.

Thanks for reply.

the car has 42000 miles. We only bought the car last year. It had a full service in 2020 but had only brake discs and pads replaced as far as I can tell.

Hopefully someone here can help.

There is no such thing with Skoda as 'Full Services',  they called them Minor / interim or Major.

That is glorified Oil & Filter Changes.   Extras cost extra, and you get asked what you want or maybe they do stuff and do not ask.

This is the Skoda 3-10 year Service items as 'Recommended',  but do not assume that at a Service they are done you need to see the Invoice / Bill.

You need to call the breakdown company to come out and read the fault codes again before attempting the long journey back to the smoke, it may not be the same code as last time.

Thanks for all your advice.

we now also had the throttle body replaced as this came up as fault code- but EPC and engine light back on again!

So far diagnostic and repair have been sone at local/ non skoda garages- maybe a mistake?

How so we find a suitable garage? Does it need to be skoda or just the right scanner?

It's obviously a wiring problem and mechanics are TERRIBLE at electrics, it needs to be looked at by an auto electrician.

Unsure but many things need coding out, once fixed. If this needed doing and was not done, it might make no differencr to the dash display as the car will still think the fault is there. (I still spotted a battery "Fault" which was on diagnostics, despite replacing it twice since the factory fitted unit. The car still "Thinks" The battery may be faulty).
