Is it turbo or split hose ?

Featured Replies

I have a 08 scout with 2.0 bmm engine . From last week it’s making some weird noise and lacks in power . But no smoke and does gives okay mpg . Here’s some videos and pictures,  had a look but I can’t pin point what is the issue . There’s some oil leak above the transfer case . https://youtube.com/shorts/Ekw2sCpZrDg?feature=share

Check the turbo to intercooler hose at the turbo end...  The rubber bend before it joins the hard pipe that runs forward to the intercooler.  If you feel round the back of it as it comes out of the turbo you may find its split.  Its a common fault on the BMM engine (ours was replaced twice at roughly 7 year intervals)

Yep that's the one...   Mine split that hose twice round the back so not visible but could be felt.

I removed and had a look at it but I can’t see any split in that hose

Before you can fix the problem you need to identify where it's coming from.

Perform video 2 process again using a 1m length of garden hose to one ear and probe for the sound source.

Tried  to probe the source but couldn’t pin point . At idle the noise just comes and disappears but on the run it’s starts around 1500 rpm . Certainly coming in the turbo or below the turbo area . There’s oil leak above the transfer case as well .

Oil in the pipework is normal from the pollution control/crankcase breather and not necessarily a worn turbo, you can remove intercooler induction pipe to check for excessive build up in the intake.

Get someone to continuously blip the accelerator while you probe for the source, otherwise you'll just have to remove and inspect each section of pipe and it's connection.
