Broken Wing Mirror

Featured Replies

I had the misfortune to have driver’s side wing mirror broken when somebody got too close and clipped it. My local dealer wants in excess of £350 for just the mirror (Karoq Edition). Does anybody have any suggestions where I can get the part at a more reasonable price? I would also be grateful for the part number. Surprisingly the Indicator part is under £30 which makes the mirror very expensive.

Is the 'Edition' wing mirror different to any other Karoq?

Does it have the memory settings to go with the powered seats perhaps? Other than that it could be body coloured rather than black?

The edition has the heated element and traffic alert otherwise I think it’s the same as any other model. I also believe the same wing mirror is used on the Kodiaq.  The price I was quoted was just for the glass, they want nearly £700 for a complete wing Mirror.

Auto dimming. The mirror glass contains an electrolyte liquid so when current is applied it dims - controlled by the interior rvm's sensor. That's why it's so expensive, and there is no cheap alternative unless you fit plain heated mirror glass and lose the auto dimming.

Still if you got the other guy's details / numberplate then tell your insurer and submit a claim against them. I learnt the hard way that 'door mirror jousting' isn't something to take lightly - all to easy to agree with other driver that it's just a bit of glass and a cheap/quick fix so no need for insurance claims. Then you get left with an £800 odd bill.

Had it happen to me, the person that hit me wanted to give me £40 , glad I didn't accept the bill was nearly £850 that was on a Ford Grand C-Max so much more in mirrors than just glass these days.

Ive always thought that mark up by car companies on spares needs to be looked into, years ago I used to work for a mirror company where we charged  £5 for a fiesta mirror that was marked up to  £83 as a spare and a Jag mirror £50 that was marked up to £500+ as a spare, at the time you could work on about 10x Mark up.

To add insult to injury the lobbyists in my country got implemented into law and have sucessfully resisted the repeal of legislation that makes it illegal to sell pattern parts for any safety related parts, only the manufacturers OE parts can be legaly sold and this is a god fearing country.

Sounds reasonable until you find that they allow the sale of Chinese brake pads & discs but any bodywork including mirrors, indicators, bumpers, door handles etc have to be manufacturers parts

Add on the stupid labour and body shop charges and its cheaper to drive the length of France into Belgium to have a ready painted wing, bumper or door mirror fitted than to buy a plain unpainted one from Ford or VAG to fit yourself, not just cheaper but less than half the price including painting and fitting.

Sorry to be stating  the obvious really ... this happened to me less than 6 months ago, just before I sold my Volvo V70 and bought my Karoq ... you can guess the likely price of a replacement mirror and body for a V70 so I haunted Ebay and a few scrappers on line for about 2/3 weeks ... got the complete replacement mirror / body ( wrong colour but ..! ) for £65.00 plus P & P ... my local friendly car body re-sprayer matched the colour ( from silver to dark blue ) and did the job for £50.00 .. my "indy" garage fitted replacement for £50.00..... in total, saved hundreds ... no one could tell the difference ... just have to be lucky to pick the right item at the right time..... V70 parts are probably rarer than Karoq so it's got to be worth a try.
