Oil Usage 2.0TSI 2011 VRS

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

i've searched to no avail

My vrs is using oil

I had a chage done after I got the car, 3 weeks later the oil light is on

level is at bottom of dipstick

1/2L in 3 weeks is in my view excesive

No leaks, no smoke (I know its got to go somewhere!)

I've had Audi's in the past where oil 'usage' seems to be normal!

Is this something I need to live with, or is it unusual?

Thanks

Have you searched or read the later threads in sticky on 1.8.2.0 Tsi engine failures at start of forum? It is very likely you are stuck with it now.

Long life servicing does this engine no favours, what is the oil / filter change history like?  Check for leaks by taking undertray off, replace PCV / Fine oil separator,  Could get turbo inspected make sure that is not pushing oil. After that it is really only one thing and an expensive thing to put right.

I have (had, awaiting collection due to sale) a 2011, manufactured in April 2011. 70k miles.  And mine uses very little oil. Like maybe 0,5 to 0,7Litres in 8000k miles / 12 months. So it is not "normal" I'm afraid.

Thanks for the reply

I did search to no real avail and checked out the engine failiure thread, but didnt realise it ran to 75 pages!!

The car has had good, regular services its only covered 72k

Ther are no leaks, its been on the ramp with the under tray removed

I'll be having another good look at the other suggested items in your reply, plus checking the plugs

If it was turbo, I'd have thought there would be smoke, but its clear and emissions are good

The car drives lovely, performance is good, there is no rattle from the chain adjuster, and there doesnt seem to be a lack of compression, or any kind of misfire which woud indicate piston rings

Can you please elabourate?

Thanks

Oil scraper rings, which for the 1.8tsi has a TSB released and required upgraded parts, pistons, conrods. Not a cheap repair at all.  There should be something similar for the 2.0Tsi.  But, check the other cheaper go to things first.

You may want to pull the plugs and check as well.
