Delivery tyre pressures

Featured Replies

I was driving along today in my November 2020 Octavia MK1V 1.5 SE when the tyre pressure warning came on 'Rt Rear pressure low'. I have had tyre pressure warnings several times before on previous Skoda models, including nearly every time I crossed the old Forth road bridge, and I was not very concerned. When I got home, I checked the pressures according to the sticker in the fuel filler cap and right rear was correct as specced: 2.5 bar BUT the left rear was at 4.6 bar. The front tyres were both to spec at about 2.6 bar. I set all the tyres to the specced pressures and reset the tyre pressure warning system. So I have been driving the car for about 7 months with the left rear tyre grossly over inflated. I never checked the tyre pressures since receiving the car, obviously I should have. Correcting the pressures has not made a noticeable difference to handling or ride. BUT I suggest that owners do check that their tyres are pressured to spec and do not rely on the warning system.

They are supposed to be set correctly at the PDI pre delivery inspection, clearly part of your PDI wasn’t done.

The bigger problem is what else got missed, you could either ask supplying dealer for copy of PDI inspection sheet (and presumably the check tyre pressure box is not ticked), or it has been falsified (marked as complete even though some things weren’t done).

If it has been falsified I would send the dealer a demand to redo the whole PDI free of charge because might be something else (wrong fluid level etc) and they don’t know what wasn’t done and what got missed.   The checklist is there for a reason, could be lots of things that got missed.

Good tip.

I once had an MOT done by Hi-Q on a different car, tyre pressures were supposed to be around 28psi I believe, and when I went to pick the car up the fella said he had put them all up to 35 psi as "......it's a nice middle ground"

I have found with my other cars (Honda and VW) that the dealers at a service and also the tyre shops after a replacement use pressures 5 PSI or more above the manufacturer's recommendation. The first thing I do when I get home, and the tyres have cooled, is to reset all to manufacturer' specs.

& reset the TPMS.

It is scary that people pick up cars, new, used, borrowed / hired and then drive them at the pressures set without checking them, when set by people that do not know you or your nearest or dearest.

If tyre pressures are set at ridiculous pressures when a new car or used is collected then best check that Transport Blocks are removed and that the tools in the car can be used to get a wheel off to change one and that the bolts are tightened safely to keep the wheels on.

Its one tyre. Seems a simple case of distracted for a moment and forgetting the final tyre. Had they all been 4.6bar then sure, many questions.

66 psi is a crazy pressure and higher than the tyres are put at for transportation.

From the present highway Code:-

Tyre pressures. Check weekly
