yes it the front  unit  that not the intercooler then ?

no the intercooler is behind it its a pack of 3 items, the radiator on the inside , then the intercooler then the ac condenser closest to the bumper

you need to remove the bumper, then the crash bar and the headlight mountings, then you can get to it

if your ac doesn't work you probably need a new condenser , compressor and a regass , it sounds harder than it is to be fair i had it done in a couple of hours there are a few guides around for it from what i remember, best to do it all at once if you can as its easier to access the compressor with the rad pack pulled forward, although ive done it with it in place aswell.

best way to check is a vcds scan, if you have no code for low gas then defo a new compressor required, how old is your car? ive not seen any mk2 vrs with original working compressors, they were badly designed and always break

id assume the compressor is gone then , new compressor and condenser and a regas will get your ac up and running, i paid 55 for the compressor brand new from china, 45 for the condenser and 45 for the regas

you use a 17mm spanner on the top tensioner and push/pull cant remember which it will only move one way and it and it will allow you to remove the belt
