Limp mode during regen - CAYC

Featured Replies

My 2012 1.6tdi Greenline goes into limp mode really easily during regen, the slightest hill or revs approaching 2500 rpm causes the sudden loss of power.

Not a problem normally, figures from VAG DPF app post regen;

oil ash residue 55.93g (80%)

soot mass calc 8.74 (36%)

high pressure EGR closing 37%

differential pressure 4 hPa (37 hPa just before regen started)

300 miles since last regen, but many failed attempts during that time.

NOTHING on VCDS so I'm in the dark, any suggestions ?

I would imagine that with oil ash residue at 55.93g (80%) it's getting pretty close or even past needing a proper removed from car DPF washout that's recommended at 80,000 miles or the DPF replaced.
How many miles has the car done?

is that when trying to carry out a forced regen?

Car has done 112k, I wasn't aware the PDF had such a limited life - had I known I certainly wouldn't have bought it without proof it had been dealt with correctly.

That's something that should be added to any potential buyers checklist along with usual suspects; cambelt, DSG oil change, Haldex service etc?

In the short term I will whip out the DPF sensor and spray in one of the products that lower the regen temperature to see if that helps, or at least pegs the problem at this point.

Forced or passive regen.

I also notice the n75 valve noises at gear changes are MUCH louder even under 2k rpm, and the power surges quite a bit too.

This from the local VAG independent I use

@Urrell thanks.

I wonder exactly what this entails, whether it's an off the car 'proper' clean or one of the two-stage JLM type procedures?

I would agree ... my experience (admittedly with Volvo,) is 200k miles before cleaning .... however we have a couple of vehicles (Renault) at work that are at over 500k, and the DPF's have never been touched and are still operating as should.

I've got some running about to do this weekend so I thought I'd run some goo through to assist the passive regen.

Could only find a bottle of Cataclean at Halfrauds this morning. Never tried the stuff before but I suppose it's a start, and it's not a full tank.

I need to organize my life a bit better to have a bottle of stronger stuff on hand for when a trip is planned.
