Is it worth exchanging this Kodiaq for another?

Featured Replies

Evening all.  I have a dilemma.  I have a 3 year old Kodiaq 'Edition' Diesel (2WD) with 36k miles on it.  I like it lots. There is no issue with it.  Including dealer/manufacturer discount it cost £27,500.  (Car was £28,500, less a £1000 'petrol card' given to us by Skoda.  (two free services too)

I entered the detail into WBAC  and it came up with a valuation of £21,500.  I thought that was pretty good - and I got similar figures on similar car buying sites.

So.. The way I am looking at it is that depreciation on this car has been £6k for 38months worth of driving.  £158 a month, or £1900 a year.
couldn't get a similar specc'ed car for even close to that on a lease deal.
I reckon that is pretty good value.

My question is  - if I was able to get a similar deal on a new Kodiaq  (around 27/28k) - Is it worth selling it and buying a new one.  I know the Edition has been discontinued - but I could live with an SE L. (There really isn't that much difference) - Also I am guessing the delays in supply have increased?!

I usually buy cars and keep them till they are 10-11 years old- but the numbers in this case tell me it may be worth swapping it given the low depreciation

It just seems that it would be a cheap way to extend the 10 year cycle.

Thanks for your thoughts.

You must have bought yours around the same time as mine as I got the good dealer/ Skoda deposit contribution and Free petrol deal when I bought mine.

Prices have gone up on the new facelift and the dealer/ Skoda deposit is now only £2750 till the end of this month.

As to delay’s I ordered a new facelift Kodiaq Sportline 2 weeks ago and delivery is not expected till December.

I would go for it. Used car prices are inflated at the moment so it's a good time to sell. You'd be getting another 3 year warranty + face lift with upgraded safety etc.  Just be aware of the long lead time.

There is a temporary increase in used prices, due to lack of new cars.

If you can find a replacement in stock and available at sensible price then go for it.  Remember new car offers change each Quarter so deposit contribution and APR might be different July-September

However if one needs to be ordered then you will be selling current car now, and replacement might not arrive until December-February.

The choice of being without a car for 6-8 months is big part of why the used prices being offered are so high short term.   That is the problem with selling separately to purchasing, no part exchange continuity.

EDIT just checked the Skoda UK website, and there is no sign of any Kodiaq Finance offers (and other model offers end tomorrow), but it remains in calculator with £2750 deposit contribution (but SEL diesel is showing as over £35k)

I’m on a PCP and the great price they offered for my car is guaranteed till my new car arrives in December or whenever, so no being without a car.

Thanks for this guys.  I didn't realise there was a temporary increase in used prices at the moment.

Looks like I can't get anywhere close to the price I paid for my current car in 2018 either (even with a slight drop in spec) - so I may be keeping it after all.

Good point about the extended wait and loss in current car value too.

It was a nice sounding idea at least!

If your not fussed on waiting on a facelift, there will be some new unregistered current models available to dealers.

For what it’s worth - dealers still have discounts to offer on top of that £2750 deposit contribution… new car sales are still slower than they should be, and they’re more willing to give you a good p/x deal because they know they can shift the old one on at a profit, even after giving you a good price.

I’ve just ordered a new Kodiaq… yes, I’m going to be paying a bit more than I was every month, but then I’ve gone Edition > VRS. I was really quite surprised at how low I could get the figures down to, even though the list price of the new one is around £16k more than my current one.
