Superb iV VC Charge Arc

Featured Replies

In my quest for understanding stuff, do any iV owners understand why the length of the blue charge arc in the Virtual Cockpit changes. Not the change in length when the battery is charging (bright blue) but the length of the non-charging (not so bright) blue line?

When the battery is fully charged, the blue line is 1/3 of what it is at other times with less charge stored.

Isn’t that just indicating regenerative braking

(when the motor is effectively running in reverse and acting as a generator rather than using electricity), would happen when slowing, or going downhill

That makes sense, my Nissan LEAF does the same thing.  Out of curiosity, does it make a difference to how much the car slows down without hitting the brake pedal?  In the LEAF its quite pronounced.

I'm up to speed (if you'll excuse the pun...) on the regen braking. It increases in intensity from higher cruise speeds down - from 34 mph and below it's the same as moderately heavy braking - works a treat.

If you look in the first picture, the brighter blue section of the blue arc indicates the amount of regen charge (braking, or foot off the accelerator when 'B' selected in the DSG box) at that specific time. It also shows up when in Sport mode and the ICE is charging the battery. It doesn't change if you are physically braking from what I've seen.

My question is why the 'base line' pale blue arc changes length depending on the state of charge of the battery.

Assuming it's like the Leaf, it's the amount of energy the battery can take from regeneration . Full battery = no (or much reduced) ability to accept charge. Low battery and its all OK.

It indicates available regeneration/recharge. It's dictated by battery charge level and battery temperature.

When the battery is full, or nearly full, there's limited regeneration potential so the bar shortens.

If your battery is very cold (winter morning) or hot (driving for a long time in battery charge) it'll also shorten.

You'll notice the effects if you drive in B mode, when the bar is short it'll not slow down by much at all when you lift off the throttle. It can catch you by surprise if you're expecting to slow down and it continues to coast as normal.

That all makes sense, thanks, people.
