Fitted MFSW to '07 Octavia, now G85 error

I bought 1K0-953-549-CF which at first glance seemed perfect but the significance of "steering angle sensor" now means something to me. This part is listed as "No" here, where my old one (I believe to be -F), says "Yes".

I get "00778 - Steering Angle Sensor (G85): No Signal/Communication" in VCDS.

Now, am I forced into buying another Steering Controller, something like "BD", or can I change something cheaper, or a software change to get the sensor to show? 

I'm shocked at the cost of this module so would rather avoid purchasing another.
