Scala.. should I buy one?

Featured Replies

Dear people,

Your views please. We've owned many VAG cars over the years, including 4 Skodas. I'm currently in a Peugeot.

I was very keen on a Scala 1.5 SEL manual  (not keen on the small capacity TSI as had that in a Yeti, with a DSG, not good).

So I test drove the Scala. Loved everything about it except.. the driver seat, which I found flat under thighs and lacking in side support. I did try different adjustments, but you know, trying out cars just isn't as relaxing an experience as it was pre Covid.

I'm 5'9 and weigh 75 kilos. I don't usually have problems with car seats. Was comfortable driving Fabia, Yeti, even Citigo.

I'm wondering whether I just got too used to the sports seats on my Peugeot..

Would be interested in how other people find the Scala driving comfort wise. I do 300 mile motorway trips in the Peugeot with a couple of breaks.

Also, are the seats on the Scala Monte Carlo better? They didn't seem to think so at the dealers.

Many thanks!

I picked up my Scala yesterday. My initial thoughts on my test drive were that the seat seemed flat. I previously had a Citroen Aircross and also drive my husbands Astra SRI.

Thanks to terrible weather and accidents on the roads our 170 mile journey home took over 5 hours a lot of it at a crawl. I can't say I had any issues at all with the seat. I actually found it more comfortable than my husbands Astra as the sport seats in his prevent me from shuffling my position. I'm sure that'll be as long a time as I would be behind the wheel in one sitting so I'm not concerned about the flat seat anymore.

Thank you! I'm wondering if I should as for a longer test drive, and may be play around with seat height/ rake.

I hope you enjoy your new car.. sounds like a good start!

100% you should. I once purchased a Mazda 6 approved used. Like you, on the test drive, I was a bit concerned about the seat. Went ahead and bought the car, thinking it must just be me. Well, it wasn't. By the time I'd driven the car 50 miles, I realised I'd made a big mistake. The seats gave me serious back ache and I have been very careful when buying a car ever since.

So yeah, get yourself a 24hr test drive if you can. I wish I had. Fortunately I was able to move the Mazda on swiftly and only lost a very small amount of money.

Thank you! I'm on a mission now to see if I can get one of the local dealers to lend me one for a day. Or at least for a longer A road trip.

Im am the same size as you and I have had the standard seats on loan Scala's, including one took overnight as a "try before you buy". I found no issue with them over about 150Kms of mixed city driving.

The one I purchased has sports seats however and I find them excellent. I've done 22000KMs so far including several longer journeys on B roads and they are very supportive and comfortable.
