Skoda Octavia 3 MY2016 DRL turning yellow

Featured Replies

Hello,

Today I found out that my left side DRL turned yellow. The right side DRL is white. Any fixes besides changing the whole headlight? I heard some people that are repairing this thing but I am looking for a DIY tutorial. Thanks in advance.

Two thing: if you have a bulb for your DRL's (on S, SE, SE Business specs), then it is just a bulb replacement.  If you have an SE-L, Scout or VRS, then you need to get the dealer to look at this as this sounds like a problematic LED panel for the headlights.

Check the condition of the front of the headlight - and if the front headlight is yellowing, then you need to clean and restore the headlight as appropriate.  I personally recommend AutoGlym Headlight Restorer.

Thank you. But I am talking about Octavia III Pre Facelift.

The LED DRL is dying.  Sorry - either new DRL unit or new headlight unit reqd.

I understand this, but which DRL unit. Can you give me a link?

Or any DIY tutorials? I wanna try to change the module first. By the way is it normal after 5 years? I thought a LED will last longer.

Thank you for this links but you were saying that I can go with a DRL module to fix this problem. I want to avoid buying a new headlight only for this DRL. Maybe you can provide me a link to buy a new DRL module and not the entire headlight? Thank you again for your time.

The design of the headlights seems to be poor despite the fact how awesome they look.. @varaderoguy is right - you have to replace the whole headlight if the DRL strip has gone.
€500 For a headlight is a lot, plus it won’t look that good because one of the headlights will be new and the other one a bit old. You can try to polish it, but I still don’t think they will look in the same way.

You can try recoding your car and use different lights for DRLs. I would also try something like these https://m.aliexpress.com/item/4001065992076.html (ignore the DRL strip, it’s not working in your case)

Or you can also switch to aftermarket DRLs in the fog lights. There are some alternatives.

Okay thank you. First I will check some guys they are saying that they can repair this. I will check how much they ask for 1 headlight. I am curious why the right headlight is not turning yellow also. If the right one would turn yellow I can go some months with both being yellow. But in my case 1 yellow and 1 white is so disturbing.

I’ve just found a topic where the author had water leak causing the DRL control unit to fail, check yours maybe as it’s much cheaper solution

I saw that topic. Thank you. I will also check that.

Good evening, @fr1nklyn and @varaderoguy. Please guide me in the following purchase. I found a really good headlight 2020 production date, but it is naked. I mean look at the photos. How can I be sure that the DRL line will be white? The seller can not provide me a photo. The DRL is a separate module or it is built in the headlight? This is not clear for me. If the headlight is relative new the DRL should be fine, but I do not understand why the seller can not test the headlight to show me if the DRL is working. He is saying that the headlight is naked and he can not test the module.

@sebic98 See the link to the pdf shared in the other topic - LED Control Module 2.pdf

Number 4 is the control module. Each headlight has its own one. Try to swap the control module on your headlights and see is the DRL yellow on the other headlight after that.

If yes, it’s from the control module and you don’t need to buy a headlight.

If the same headlight still has yellow strip, it’s from the headlight itself and you need to replace it. But just in case talk to the seller to return it if it doesn’t work.

Don’t buy it unless you’re sure it’s from the headlight, that’s my opinion.

Can I swap the module without removing the bumper? Or do I have to remove the front bumper? Thank you!

@sebic98hey mate

Have you managed to get to the bottom of led yellowing? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

  • 1 year later...

i have this kind of problem and i already changed the led module and polished the tube itself from yellow soot.

It got better but I'm still not happy.  is it possible to find the tube itself for replace it?
