fabia mk 1 amber engine warning light

Featured Replies

Can anyone help me I have a 2005 mk1 fabia 1.2   3 cylinder

when engine is warm and idling after about 4 minutes the amber light flashes eventually starts running oddly and goes into limp mode

If I turn off the engine and restart all is fine until next idling moment, I have changed all ignition coils for new, new ngk spark plugs

checked air filter.

I plugged a cheap code reader and the fault read as po 303 #10      cylinder 3 misfire detected

I have swapped ignition coils on cylinder 3 in case the new one was faulty , still have the problem

Any advice would be helpful. I am not  overly mechanically minded and the car is booked in for a service soon

It  otherwise drives ok and still gives good mpg at 92,000 miles.

I have seen other posts in a similar vein but no cures. thank you

Well, a bad coil pack is not the only possible cause of a misfire. You need a better mechanic than me to advise you further though.

I would check the brake servo hose for splits, particularly around joints.

Perform a compression test and post the results.

Brace yourself for a low number on cyl 3 relative to the others.

6-valve or 12-valve variant?

6 valve classic fabia 1.2

Ah, oh dear.

Exhaust valves no bueno.

Compression test results are cylinder 1  160 psi  cyl 2  161 psi  cyl 3  91 psi

Thank you for all replies and help. I guess this is confirmation of exhaust valves as suggested

local garage will hopefully give me a price on thursday

Let us know how you get on, and sorry to have been the predictor of bad news.

Mechanic had good look over car estimate for valve/head work and timing chain kit plus an exhaust front pipe approx £700 upwards

car is not too bad overall but has plenty of superficial issues and it is quite old, so I think it might be time to say goodbye to this one.

I have been looking at Yetis as a possible  replacement. Thank you for everyone's input

Sounds wise.
