Front knock

Featured Replies

Hi guys, my fabia has started to make a metallic knock on the font near side, only when going over uneven roads or sometimes changing gear, any ideas guys please? Thanks (newbie here)

Broken spring, breaking up wheel bearing or CV joint, issue with gearbox...

FARB drop link.

No broken spring, did have the drop link replaced and a few days later the knocking started, related? Have seen about blots half way down the car that's possibly linked?

Drop link fixings not tightened correctly, I was shocked to see that they are not a tapered ball joint but a plain shaft in a very large clearance hole and rely solely on the friction of the bolted joint to not move and create a knocking noise.

The flanged nuts with the ribbed indents are well designed and do a good job of holding together a compromised joint design.

So no, not a coincidence, most faults when found will usually reveal retrospectively that there were clues, a (related) job done on the car a couple of days before is either a massive clue or  a red herring.
