Best oil for vRS?

Featured Replies

The list of oils on the FAQ are all great, but, what oil would you choose? I use Motul in my Scoob and wondered if there is any significat difference between those listed?

I'm still running in at around 6,000 miles and the oil is on the bottom of the hatched area on the stick so reckon 1/2 a litre is about right? Or, is it worth doing a complete oil change more frequently, say every 5,000 miles?

Cheers!

Whatever you buy it must meet the VW spec. Other than that the choice is yours.

I bought some Millers XFE PD for top up because its VW 505.01 approved, cheaper than the OEM brand and readily available at the Motorist Discount Centre half a mile away. However the container hasn't been opened yet!

Mines on third oil fill in 9k but that's just through circumstance. Bought as pre-reg ex Demo the Skoda Main dealer changed it at 4k when I bought it off him, then again at first annual service a month or so back.

As above - your choice/availability, as long as its to spec.:)

Nio problem with millers ........ I took a 5lt Bottle to the dealer when they

did my 10k service last month

Quantum is another good option, my son runs his "vintage" Mk1 Golf on it.

We have a local GSF outlet couple of miles away and they stock all the main Quantum (VW) oils. Also good for VW genuine engine coolant and loads of other stuff.

For the most part their prices are rock bottom (especially for Mk1 consumables - although some things are less readily available now)

There are 48 GSF branches spread across most regions.

Have a look at 'amsoil'- supplier in Twickenham/Hounslow I believe, the best oil according to engine wear tests and they make claims even Mobil aren't prepared to make about Mobil 1. Also their oil filters filter out particles half the size of that conventional oil filters are capable of filtering = cleaner oil for longer. A web serach should turn up plenty of info.

Ahh the joys of kinson/west howe. Used to go there all the time for car parts.

Can't say for the Skoda, but i had a car go on and on and on with millers semi-synthetic diesel oil. I think their oils are great. That was extending the 5k service to a 6k one and the engine was still going strong when i got the skoda.

I'm currently using GSF for my screen wash - Cheaper than the usual VAG suspects.

Well spotted that man, 10/10 for geography - not bad at all.

I'm actually Redhill/Moordown so its probably bit more than half a mile but who's counting.

Be you a citizen of the sunny metropolis too then chap?

Well it's a student slum and devlopers playground these days but it used to be good when I were a lad.

I ended up buying oil from the SKODA dealer. The guy seemed to think that any good oil would do, hmm, am wondering about having the car serviced there now.

Look at the Fuchs options on my site as they are the Factory fill German Company.

Prices are low too in the Members Section of my website http://www.opieoils.co.uk

Cheers
