iV Aftermarket Sound System?

Featured Replies

As per the title, i'm just wondering whether or not its possible to upgrade the sound system in the Mk4 iV ?  I'm happy with the car in general but the audio is pretty pathetic, especially the lack of any bass.

Of course it's possible. But it depends on what you want to upgrade exactly. Adding a sub isn't that hard, you can always put in a sub with line level inputs.

I wouldn't want to go too mad, i'm not interested in upgrading to a system that shatters the windows, i'd just like some real nice quality audio with a nice amount of bass. I'd be happy to replace the speakers and add a small sub as long as it's a clean install.

Are you sure the speakers need upgrading? Pretty sure the stock speakers are 6.5 inches, you're not going to find any magic speaker in the aftermarket either, you would need to get a more powerful amplifier to see any effect. Just add a 8-10 inch sub and it will have more bass.

I'm not sure and that's the problem. With decent source material i was initially surprised with system but i soon found that it's only half decent at a very specific volume and i guess, specific frequencies.

So it's either the amplifier or the processing, changing the speakers isn't going to do much. After all they all are just paper/fiber cones with a magnet.

I guess something like the Alpine SWE-815 might do just fine then? It seems to be highly rated and it's not likely to overpower anything.

Sure, but if you really want deep bass then stepping up to 10 inches would be noticeable too.
