Hi,

My electric struts have stopped working again. The last time I just gave them a good soaking in WD40 and they worked again, This time they haven't, so I'm throwing in the towel and going to swap to gas struts. I've watched a couple of how-to guides on the net but none of them show how to release the sockets from the balls , mine seem to have a metal wire clip which looks as if it has to be prised out the release them, none of the how-to guides show this type of clip. I'm just wondering if anyone of you learned colleagues may be able to point the way please?

To @geno101 - You need to shove something like a middle size flat screwdriver under the metal wire clip to release a Millimeter or two, note more. After that You need to pull out hard the strut from the ball join. It will be better if You lubricate the ball join Try not to scratch the trunk - You can use some old clothes. Good Luck

 

P.S.

If You bend over the metal wire clip, there is no spare part - it is only a part of a brand new electric strut.
