My electric tailgate struts ....again.

Featured Replies

Hi,

My electric struts have stopped working again. The last time I just gave them a good soaking in WD40 and they worked again, This time they haven't, so I'm throwing in the towel and going to swap to gas struts. I've watched a couple of how-to guides on the net but none of them show how to release the sockets from the balls , mine seem to have a metal wire clip which looks as if it has to be prised out the release them, none of the how-to guides show this type of clip. I'm just wondering if anyone of you learned colleagues may be able to point the way please?

My regards.

To @geno101 - You need to shove something like a middle size flat screwdriver under the metal wire clip to release a Millimeter or two, note more. After that You need to pull out hard the strut from the ball join. It will be better if You lubricate the ball join :) Try not to scratch the trunk - You can use some old clothes. Good Luck :)

P.S.

If You bend over the metal wire clip, there is no spare part - it is only a part of a brand new electric strut.
