Limp home - lots of errors

Featured Replies

My 1.0TSI lit up like a Christmas tree tonight and then went into limp mode on the way home (very lumpy).

It's displaying errors for the traction control, hill hold, start stop and tyre pressure, which seems highly unlikely.

Has anyone else experienced this? Planning on getting it taken to a local VAG specialist but wondering if it's something easily resolved myself. Some have suggested a battery issue. I checked and it's reading as 12.6v.

1.0tsi

We had a turbo actuator fail which lit the dash up and caused limp mode.

The actuator is about 500 at SEAT or Skoda, but it needed a turbo as well which is 2k.☹️

It better be under guarantee if this is the fault.

Had it previously on a 1.2 TSI as well.

Also had a brand new loaner 1.0 MPI triple that lit the dash up 10 miles into any trip with electronic systems failing throughout the car!

Good luck.

It's out of warranty (was 3 years old in March) so hoping it's not needing a new turbo. It's only done 23,000 so if it's failed after that then I'd be tempted to fix and chuck the car if that's the quality of VAG cars.

Makes me think of a low battery or a duff ABS sensor.

You're right. The public perception of VW group quality is not in agreement with my experiences at all.

My 1.0 did just 15000 and the turbo on the 1.2 only got to 26000.

Battery was fine. It's off to the Seat garage to get checked but the guy doing the recovery reckoned it's the throttle body. Being checked tomorrow so will find out. I've been advised they'll cover part of the cost by default as it was only sold to me me 2.5 months ago.

Previous VAG cars I've owned have been pretty bullet-proof to be fair but I'd be none to impressed with a failed turbo on a three year old car! Obviously I don't know how the previous owner treated it but it was regularly serviced and almost spotless. Approx 7k p/a so not too low miles but it could be the previous owner was doing a lot of short trips resulting in a clogged throttle...or it could be a snapped spring.

Mine's the 1.2Tsi Toledo I had similar happen nearly 3 years ago. The battery was fine but when a proper check was done it was found to be low in power, that was after a long run. In a nutshell it said it needed a throttle position sensor changing, not correct, a new battery fitted and it's been fine ever since. Never took it to a SEAT dealer, my local garage sussed it out, he said they get a few VAG cars in with similar issues, they always start the fault finding process with a battery check.

Will see what they say tomorrow. The 1.2 is different to the 1.0 as far as I'm aware but could well be the battery. It's used on long runs so battery should be alright but it's likely the same battery since new so could need swapped.

Just giving an update in case anyone has a similar issue.

Problem identified as the throttle valve so being replaced.

Is being or has been replaced?

Let's hope it's fixed your problem, no more warning dash lights.👍

Was replaced at no cost t me. Running perfectly again. Interestingly, when I picked up the guy explained what they'd done and said "checked the date on it" (the throttle valve) so I' wondering if there's a known issue?

My wife's Rapid1.2 went into limp mode 150 miles after its first taste of E10 petrol.  Pulled over, switched off, started up again and it ran OK for another 100 miles before the same happened .Since we were on holiday I took it to a small MOT centre and he found a few faults on disagnostic but it wasn't really clear so I took it to  main dealer and their diagnosis showed nothing, though they did blame the previous mechanic for clearing the history. Anyone else had issues with E10 fuel?

All that proves is that the faults haven't recurred, which is actually good fault finding by the indy.
