Rear Light Damage - Advice Please

Featured Replies

Firstly, apologies for not been around much the last few months, work and home life have both been manic recently and there is no sign of things letting up anytime soon.

My Octy (67 vRS) performed brilliantly going up and the M4/M5 to allow the family to holiday in Cornwall whilst unfortunately had my leave cancelled last minute. However, it did not escaped unscathed. It looks like what can only be described as a giant boulder struck my rear light cluster. I assume the whole cluster now needs replacing. My first thought is to get a second hand part of eBay and use my local independent VW/Audi/Skoda specialist to make good the repair. Just out of interest does anyone know how easy it is to do this myself or if this is something only a main dealer can do? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Taillights are super easy to remove and replace.

It's covered in the owners manual as they need to be removed to replace the bulbs 👍

As a temporary measure you can buy red lens tape to seal it and remain road legal. From usual places Euro car parts, Halfords, Ebay, amazon and others.

Yeah they’re simple to replace. Two screws fix the cluster is place. There are two locating pins as well. Cable set is just plug and play.

Thanks for the replies, I’ll get on eBay and order a replacement. I presume the vRS doesn’t have a bespoke cluster and anything that fits the f/l mk3 will suffice?

Not exactly. There are 2 cluster types. LED and LED high functionality. The latter is what you want.

You can suss out the correct one here

Skoda parts website

Part no's at the top of the item webpage

You can message them with your vin to get a definitive part no

I agree, but in MOST parts - the VRS's came with LED tail lamps...but not all of them did.  2017 was an odd-year of the changeover to FL models.  I've seen a early FL VRS without LED tail lamps. However, looking at the cluster of the OP, I would say this one does have LED tail lamp clusters.

In theory, you can get a new skin for the tail lamp, but that requires find that part alone.  I agree with @xman and others - see if you can find an accident damaged VRS and change the cluster over.

Sure I read somewhere that in the tool kit, the Allen key is for removing the torx screws holding the light cluster in place and that the metal hook in the the tool kit can be used for removing the trim to get to the torx screws.

I stand to be corrected.

I believe the same as you.
