Estate and spare wheel

Recommended Posts

My dad has just bought a mk4 white estate, although it’s missing the spare wheel, which he would like to sort before his trip to Scotland soon. Will a mk3 toolkit fit if we get a mk3 space saver off ebay? he has a mk3 toolkit/polystyrene already. Has any one got pictures of and estate with the wheel et.c. fitted. Can we just buy the polystyrene and wheel thing that holds it down?

I have to admit the interior is a massive step up from the mk3.

thanks in advance.

I assume the toolkit would not fit on top.it would depend on the width of the wheel and height of the tool kit which would give the overall width to fit under the floor. What I was trying to do was saving buying the tool kit part, but it might be too tall as well.

Hi all.

I have recently purchased a MK4 vRS estate. Just wondering if these part numbers for the spare and kit are good for the vRS with the bigger brakes? I have contacted my local TPS centre who have said the numbers are good and list a tyre that matches that in the petrol flap, so looks promising. Just don't want to order without knowing for sure as they are non returnable.

Tha is in advance all.

It looks like the OEM part number for the foam and jack kit (everything except the actual spare wheel) has changed from 5E3093860 to 5E3093860B, at some point over the past two years.

You should be able to order this kit from any VAG parts department. However, do confirm with them that this will fit your car. Some Octavia MK4 cars have a sub-woofer (sound system) in the boot or are hybrid or are CNG, and it won't fit those cars.

When you have the foam and jack kit, you can see if your current wheels will fit in the boot. My guess is that if they are 225s, ie. 225/45R18 or 225/40R19, that they won't fit unless all the air has been let out so that the sidewalls are floppy. I would also guess that the 205s, ie. 205/60R16 or 205/55R17, will fit. However, do check yourself.

One option for an Octavia MK4 spare wheel is a 6.5Jx16 ET46 5/112 57.1 steel rim with a 205/60R16 tyre fitted. This is one of the standard Octavia MK4 tyre and rim sizes. However, a 16" rim won't clear the front brake calipers on the biggest 340x30mm front brake discs. You might only find these on the most powerful Octavia MK4 cars such as the 245HP models.

I have a space saver from my Seat Leon mk3.5, T125/70 R16. Wondering if this would fit my 1.5TSI eTec. Any idea?

Also, if it's the space saver do I need the foam on top? Is the foam and jack kit 5E3093860B for this?

Should I even bother or just sell it and get the Skoda kit?

Thanks

125/70R16 is tiny. Is it 125/70R18?

If it is 125/70R18, then you could use that because it is the correct size space saver tyre for the Octavia MK4 (even though it has an outside diameter a little bit smaller than the standard Octavia MK4 tyre sizes)...and will be fitted to a 3.5Jx18 ET25.5 5/112 57.1 steel space saver rim.

The kit is all you need (apart from the actual spare wheel) and includes support for the carpet, etc.

Don't you mean 125/70R18, ie. an 18" space saver?

No, I mean the R16. Funny, I had 225/45 R17 on my Leon and that was ok (luckily I never had to use it).
Ok, I guess it’s not worth the hassle. I might as well get the full size wheel and not bother with the foam overlay. I assume the full size doesn’t need it.

As you can see in the chart below, the 125/70R16 tyre size has an outside diameter a whopping 10.9% smaller than the standard 16" Octavia MK4 tyre size. Even a 5% difference would be quite a lot.

Outside diameter of tyre

205/60R16 652.4mm

135/90R16 649.4mm (0.5% smaller outside diameter compared to 205/60R16)

125/90R16 631.4mm (3.2% smaller outside diameter compared to 205/60R16)

125/85R16 618.9mm (5.1% smaller outside diameter compared to 205/60R16)

125/80R16 606.4mm (7.1% smaller outside diameter compared to 205/60R16)

125/70R16 581.4mm (10.9% smaller outside diameter compared to 205/60R16)

The Seat Leon MK3 does have both 125/70R16 and 125/70R18 listed in the Seat parts catalogue as shown in the link below.
