Octavia MkII Key won't lock/unlock doors

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. I have a weird problem. I have two keys for my Octavia, and I have left one of them in a drawer for a while. I went to use it, and it wouldn't unlock the doors on the remote. I tried to unlock it manually, and it set the alarm off! Once I got in with the other key, the faulty key still started the car fine. Even after starting (which will sync the key in my Audi), the key still will not lock or unlock the doors. Is there something I have missed, or do I possibly have a dead key? Thanks.

The battery for the remote in the key will have gone flat.

Easy enough to change the battery:

On cars with remote locking, when you open the door with the key in the door, if you don't turn on the ignition within 15 seconds it will sound the alarm.

Does the red LED on the key flash when a button is pressed?

The key that was in a drawer will have lost its place in the sequence of codes. Use it to manually unlock the door then immediately use it to turn on the ignition. Then turn off the ignition and remove the key. This should have re-synchronised the remote.

Thanks. Sorry, I should have said that I changed the battery in the key. The key didn't seem to open the doors at all, even manually. I was still trying to get the door to unlock when the alarm went off!

Yes it does.

Thanks. I tried this, but it didn't work. The key still starts the car fine, but won't work the locks.

Unfortunately, this video doesn't apply to mine, as mine is not a "hidden lock" version. Being an early mkII, I have the outer door lock. I tried the procedure anyway, and got no change.
