40,000 miles and 5 year old 1.4Tsi 150 hpp

Just thinking about getting a service done in October. Will the cam belt need replaced? And any associated components? I intend to ask for an air cleaner and pollen filter change.

Thanks

@gregoir Is it going to a main dealership for the work.  I hope not unless you are very flush.

Has the Air Filter not been changed at the last service, and can you not look at it, see how clean it is or not,

and change it instead of being charged £45?

£35 for a Main Dealer changing a Pollen Filter, eeek

The Pollen filter is easy, vacuum the area after the filter is removed, clean the area / wash it. Fit a new filter.

If it was my car and i had driven it from new i would not be changing the cam belt.   (Well thinking of it i would because i had been driving.)

?

Has it had the brake fluid changed, or at least tested for H20 content?

An oft asked question! There are a few posts about it if you search.

UK Skoda dealers will say yes based on the 5 years.

Skoda (the manufacturer) say no, just to inspect at much higher mileage (~130K) and replace if needed. The belt is designed to be maintenance free.

Air cleaner and pollen filter are very easy to do yourself if you are so inclined (and cost £17.50 together from Carparts4 less, vs £80 to fit from Skoda!). Air cleaner is supposedly needed only every 6 years/60K. I change mine more regularly.

The pollen filter is harder because you have to open the glovebox, and there is a knack to that (but again, other threads here if you search).

I was going to take it to a local garage for the service  ,unless the belt change was a must. So an inspection only pro tem and a belt change when? Thanks.

For what is worth, the belt replacement is recommended at 7 years in Australia.

Even the tech who asked me at the last service, at 7 year mark, admitted I was not the first to defer and he had not encountered a belt failure yet.

Still making up our mind whether to keep or replace our 1.4tsi estate which is still a joy to drive.

I have the same query.  Car is 4 years old and has done 28000 miles.  Next August will be the official Cam Belt change - err I think or so the Skoda dealership says.  It will have done about 35000 miles by next August.  Can I assume I don't need a Cam belt change?  It's a 1.6 Octavia 2017 estate diesel automatic.

I had my cambelt changed May this year. It was five years old but nowhere near the expected mileage. The thing to bear in mind is whilst the belt may not have done the mileage, it will still have been subject to drying out, hot and cold weather and other things which will affect it's strength. I will admit, I was somewhat peeved getting it done, but I'd be on the ceiling if the cambelt had snapped and bent all the valves!!!
