Servicing schedules too rigid

Can't help feeling that the services are too rigid in their application. Yes, a rep driving 20k or miles per year, the interim and major services pan out well for him or her. But at the other end of the scale is my sister-in-law who only drives 2k per year and every other service she has plugs replaced with all the filters when those components can last so much longer saving her the expense of really exchanging new for almost new. All it takes is for the mileage to be compared and any technician with the servicing e-book will do and charge accordingly the necessary work. It will bring back the trust and perhaps the feeling of honesty among customers who have ditched the main dealers for independents, or perhaps who do it themselves.

For 9,400 miles a Year or between services it was Minor & Major, then theu changed that to Interim & Major. 

In the First Major Service at 20,000 miles / 24 Months nothing extra waws done but they charged the extra.

 

 

Skoda do not call them a Schedule' 

they are recommendations and while in warranty the T&C's say you have to service to the Recommendations. 

 

So if someone has a car on Variable / Flexible servicing and does 2,000 miles a year ir is 24 months before they need have an Oil & Filter change.

 

Nobody makes you have anything done to your car other than a MOT after 3 years then each year if in the UK.

 

Spark Plugs were shown at each 2nd Major Service so @ 4 years / 40.000 miles.

No need for that, or brake fluid @ 3 years then each 2.  You can test the Fluid.

Air filters were each 2nd Major Service, you can inspect and clean them, same with the Pollen Filter each 2 years.

 

Cars doing few miles should be well checked if the owner is not doing it.

 

Now they show the Air Filter @ 6 years.  That is OK if you inspect it each year and maybe vacuum or blow it through with an air line, 

or just replace it when dirty / damp.

 How it was just a few years back, up to 2019/20.

Pulman Skoda were taking the pith with a Interim for just a Pollen Filter as an extra. They all get Long Life Oil.

All took the pith that called the first Variable Service a Major and many got away wit charging and nor changing stuff. 

Cheated HMRC as well as Customers.

Note that engine oils have a limited life, regardless of use.

Prices have risen yet again. Plugs are £105 and filters risen too. I wonder how will they keep profit margins with electric vehicles?

Pollen Filters,  Visual Inspections, brakes which they will say are 80% worn and rear drums they will say they have removed and cleaned while not even having removed the wheels / brake fluid, diagnostic and road test.

 

With the Plug in Hybrids they have the TSI engines on Fixed Service Intervals.  That should be 'Fixed Interval Oil & Filter changes'  the service can still be variable flexible.

 

Engines might run very very seldom if the drivers are regularly run them just short distances on electric. 

Plugs could last a decade plus.
