it seems to be coming from up near the window tho!

I had the same problem with a wire underneath the dash that made the noise. I removed the glovebox to get to the inside of the dash and fixed the wire with some tape.

You have to remove the sidepanel of the dash. There is a small hole where you can fit a screwdriver and then pry it out.

The glovebox is held in place by three screws at the top and two in the bottom. Once removed you can easily remove the glovebox compartment and gain access to the insides of the dash.

If you cant locate the cause of the noise try to take the Fab for a spin and bring along a buddy. He can then try to touch different locations inside the dash to locate the noise.

Best of luck.

ole166, which wire was making the noise for you?

I followed your instructions and found it alot easier to remove the glovebox than i thought (thanks for that!) but i cannot seem to find where my vibration is coming from. It seems to be coming from somewhere behind that big plastic round thing (below the airbag) that i just cant get behind! Think i might just try whacking some sound proofing on the bit of the glovebox that already has it on top to try and deaden the vibrating...but would love to know what wire it was that you taped down that fixed your problem?

I'm sure my car has every issue ever mentioned on this site! I too will have a go at taking the glove compartment out and seeing if I can find anything loose.

Ditto with this little blighter of a problem in the left hand corner of the dash. It's not the glovebox so Skoda say. The dash has been out twice, insulating tape has been added by Skoda behind the dash, wires have been put in their right locations etc etc etc and etc and still I get this plastic type rattle from the same location. Don't let it do your head in, I give that up a long time ago. Pretend its a game of chase the rattle its much more fun in the long run. If on the other hand anybody does find a cure I for one would be so soo sooo happy.

i had a rattle similar to thid but it was something to do with the bonnet hinges skoda said anyways it solved it

I've got a strange noise, not really a rattle it's more like a metronome. Whenever I drive over a bad section of road the noise starts and keeps going for a few moments after I have cleared the section of road. It sounds metallic in origin and no matter what speed your driving the noise is always the same (it doesn't speed up or slow down), think I've got some piano teacher trapped under my bonnet somewhere hehe. Anyway the noise seems to be emmiting from the glove box, even with the glove box open it can still be heared. And yes I've completely emptied both compartments of the glove box. Any ideas?

Had one last week with a rattle from that general area. We found that it disappeared if you put your finger between the door and the door aperture seal. Further investigation revealed that the fore/aft felted weatherstrip had come unstuck and was rattling at certain speeds.

i havent had any rattling from the near side but the drivers side. appears to come from the corner, or the far left of the drivers door. any ideas how to remove the trim between the window and doorcard?

if that makes sense...

Just put the stereo on and not worry about it.

I think I've got the same - my best guess is it's coming from the fusebox, or prhaps the tweeter in the corner of the door? Except sometimes it sounds like the heated mirror switch, and sometimes the air-vent! It's more a 'buzz' than a rattle, and is really pronounced at about 2000rpm.

I had a rattle drivers side and found out it was the long bit of plastic that runs up between the windscreen and door frame. Hit it a few times which sorted it

*fetches hammer*

thanks guys and girls .

guess its a skoda gremlin or ghost of a ex skoda worker

i have put it down to one of three things having stripped out the heater box to find the noise. will post a solution if i find it but have looked at the following so far .................

1. the plastic cogs on the side of the heater box.

2. the plastic flaps at the back of the heater box moving on the metal shaft.

3. the windscreen washer pipe tubing under neath the scuttle panel rubbing against the plastic trim . have to take the trim off when i have some time .

4. the wiring in the left hand side front wheel arch liner moving against the bulkhead side panel . will have a look at this when i have some time ....

if i still have the noise after all that i give up :o

in answer to a earlier post how to remove = the plastic trim at the side of the dash that runs up the side of the screen on the inside .

the trim is held in place by four metal spring clips. you simply remove it by pulling at the trim from the top or the bottom first after pulling away the door seal . it then just comes off .

chance are when you take it off you will break the clips or the platic trim . but isnt expensive to replace.

the noise you mention might be the wiring harness that runs up the a post on the left hand side making the noise :(

I have a 2 month old octy2 and I also have this noise coming from the passenger side dash area. I get this noise anytime I go over a bad patch. I was worried that it is a suspension noise as it sounds like a metallic creak. But today I found this noise is coming from the dash itself.

I could reproduce this noise by doing this: Park the car and open the passenger door. Locate the plastic cover on the dash between the door and the air-vent. It is same as fuse cover if it were driver's side. Bang it hard with your fist on the bottom most portion of this plastic cover. I get the exact creaking noise that I get when I am driving over bad patches.

I don't know the fix :-( I am going to open it and check it out myself before I go to the dealer. It is a relief to find the source (almost) though.

P.S: I am from India and this is my first post. Great forum.

my fabia rattle noise was apparently the stabiliser bar behind the glovebox.

It was annoying enough to be noticed over the stereo.

It got fixed about 4 months ago, but I think it's coming back.

I also had a slight rattle from the CD changer under the passenger seat, which was fixed by sliding the door on the front of it so it is always open.

I had a rattle on my glove box door and I fixed it. I found it rattled where the lock was on the inside of the door . I wedged a rubber tipped screwdriver between the joins on the door and prised it apart very slighty along the edge. It apears that the two parts are held together by clips and glue. Since prising the door apart, it has stopped rattling and the glovebox door clipped togther fine without the glue. I wonder if the door was stuck togther too well:rofl: and thats why it made the noise because of vibration resonating through the plastic?

have found the fix for this . please see my posting on this :thumbup:
