Driver front window “stepped” up and down….

Featured Replies

My 67 plate 90,000 mile Octavia seems to have an issue with the operation of the drivers window.

On convenience operation using the key fob, all windows lower and rise at the same time without issue. The driver window operated from the switch seems to stop at various times on up or down, generally it’s 3 button operations to fully lower or raise. The multi switch operates all the other windows in one motion and no stepping happens.

any suggestions ?

Your drivers window has just lost its "one touch function"

Ignition on , Put the window down by holding the button, then put it all the way up. Let go of the button, then pull it up again for 3 seconds.

Then put it down and try it up with one click it should go all the way up in one go after that.

Sounds like a cheap fix, I’ll give it a go in the morning

thanks

It’s cured the stopping half way up and down now, the one touch isn’t working, but that’s not a problem as I never use it.

Thanks for the advice

So used the car today and it seems that the problem is back again, I’m thinking it must be the switch

Only thing I've seen for window module to loose this setting is battery being disconnected. Try all the way down, then all the way up and hold that for three seconds.

Also, when car is locked and all windows are shut,  what happens when you press and hold the unlock button on the remote as that should open all the windows "comfort opening" and vice versa, holding lock should raise them again.

OP has said that they work correctly with the remote.

Comfort opening works fine, and battery is good and not been low or disconnected.

I’ll try the up and down 3 seconds etc and report back

Sorry missed comfort opening was ok above..👍

So I ordered a replacement switch from Amazon which was less than £10 delivered and apart from the fact it’s got slightly different images and the rear lock out switch doesn’t illuminate it does the job.

With the new switch in the drivers window now goes all the way up and down when keeping your finger on the switch and I stated before comfort opening on the key has always worked, but I’ve now got one touch open and close on the drivers window.

I did look at the old switch to see how it might be needing cleaning but nothing obvious and I didn’t wanna take it apart because it doesn’t look like it goes back together.

All the tools I needed were some good quality plastic trim removal tools to take the whole switch unit out of the door and then once unplugged similar tools to remove the switch from the plastic trim housing.

All in all 10 minutes to swap over  and another 15 minutes faffing around with the old switch before I decided it was trash.
