Gear ratio change

Featured Replies

I own a 2.0 petrol Fabia, but I live in a montainous region.

Although the engine is quite torquey, the gear box ratios are too long specially going down hill, making me bake too much.

I want a beter (shorter) gear ratio, with the added benefit of faster acceleration specilally at 2nd and 3rd gear, for overtaking uphill.

I know i'll lose top speed, and maybe increase the fuel consuption.

Any ideas?

Get a TDi fabia. :D

Sorry to sound negative, but I don't think it's going to be easy or cheap. With the change you'd get I'd move into diesel territory. Long 'box still but about twice the torque to pull you up those hills! :)

:iagree:

I was amazed how much pull a Diesel has uphill !

Unfortunatelly no TDi's are sold on my country, the top of the line here is was the 2.0 and now it isn't even availiable.

In here the dealer is fitting the gas 1.4 16V witha new gear ratio and calling it GTI, I know it's cheap, or they wouldn't do it, but the gear box is different for my car.
