Superb - cannot set up Primary User

New L&K Superb. 71 Reg.  Keys recognised but repeatedly fails with message " Try Again or Contact Customer Service".

From the forum this seems to happen quite often to various models.

Therefore I cannot understand why Customer Service do not have readily available solution to the problem.

Can anyone advise please?

You might get better answers in the Superb section. This is the Kamiq section and we don't have (to my knowledge) the same infotainment system that you do.

Having said that, I have had a Kodiaq with a Columbus system and whilst you may think I'm being silly, there's a couple of things you can try, one of which has worked for me in another matter.

First off, reboot the infotainment system 3 times in succession. If you don't know how to do this; keep your finger pressed on the on/off icon for a few seconds until you hear a loudish beep or pop, This is an easy thing to do and will not affect any settings, so nothing ventured, nothing gained.

If that doesn't work, try restoring factory settings in the infotainment system. This is easy to do, but is more involved because you will lose any settings that you've personalised.

One of these might work and if they do, then you've saved a visit to the dealer. If they don't, then all you've lost is a bit of time.

Of course, your system might require an update at the dealer, but the above are worth a try.

Thank you. I am new to using forums and clearly posted this is the wrong section. I will try your suggestions.

You're welcome and let us know whether it worked or not. Feedback is a good thing 👍

You have to have an update at your dealer it didn’t have a protection program deleted at the end of production so stops you being a primary user and having Skoda connect. Could take up to 5 hours for the fix. Resetting  will not  work

That’s because they’ve been fully and expertly trained to be Customer Dis-service and Dis-engagement for at least 10 years. It’s a shame..
When Skoda was trying to establish itself as a “proper” manufacturer in the early 2000’s, (we’ve owned Skoda’s since 2003) the whole organisation and most of the dealers were fantastic; they really went the extra mile - and often beyond it - to keep customers happy, getting  problems solved quickly some of the time at no cost to the customer, even when it was out of warranty (the whining diff was replaced FOC on our 1.6 Octy is a case in point) and because of this, they were able to use owner-drivers as an extension to the very positive corporate PR campaign.
However, as Skoda became more successful, that ethos soon disappeared and they finally became just like any other manufacturer. Actually, they’re probably worse; there’s no acknowledgement of emails, no follow-up, no single person owning an issue and now, stupidly, they couldn’t give a hoot if you bad mouth them to friends and family. Sad really as the product is great but they just don’t care, as 80% of sales are now in the corporate market and probably 70% of those are via leasing or contract hire.
After my terrible experience with two dealers last year AND two dealers this, I’ve given up on them and will just be using a fairly local, excellent independent VW specialist.

After 2 months I have now become the Primary User. All attempts failed.

Had to go to a Main Dealer and leave the car for a day to get this sorted.  They were vague about exactly what they needed to do. "Reset and parts" were mentioned.

Hi Guys

I too have a Superb that refuses to allow me to become the Primary. Tried nearly everything mentioned above. As always forum's have the best info and the protection program (manufacturing) seems a likely problem. However, the 'connected car' isn't connected until the Primary is installed, so all a bit frustrating and Skoda wonder why they don't sell more subscription services after the first free year !! (Doh!)

Looks like I'll be speaking to my dealer then. I'll report back when I have news

Hi Patent

Thanks for the reply, encouraging. How did you connect to the house wifi ? I've seen an option but assumed it was for setting up a hot spot inside the car

Thanks in advance

Oh i also set up and logged into the my Skoda app in advance too.

You can connect to your house or phone hotspot by going to menu > settings > wlan.

It did take several days to work and even now it's temperamental and will sometimes refuse to load any profile that's not guest

Mine has this problem. I put it down to under-rated cpu or ram, but either way its really frustrating it sits there on occasion thinking about loading a profile. Can't sit on the drive forever waiting for it to make up its mind...

To me it seems they've added a load of "functionality" to the MIB 2.5 hardware and it's not fit. My B8 Passat was flawless. One of the reasons I chose the superb over a Pug 508 was the laggy touchscreen in the 508, sometimes I wonder.

When mine sticks on guest there's no way to undo it until a couple of full shutdown cycles. I've just configured my guest profile the same as my own, so it's less of an annoyance.

That's a good shout to match profiles. Unfortunately, sometimes this also manifests itself as not recognising the individual key and the 2nd driver is significantly shorter than me. Got halfway down the road the other day and the car tried to surgically introduce me to the steering wheel...

Pity, was hoping an update might provide a more efficiently-written code...

Be thankful you aren't in an Octavia or ID3 with the same issues and no physical A/C controls.

How I get around the other driver issue is by using the seat memory. I'm 1, my partner is 2. At least if the profiles stick, you can always get the seats and mirrors to the right location

Physical controls were a deciding factor after test drive in Octavia RS

It's a pity because the hyper green VRS is a thing of beauty. Luckily it wasn't on offer when I ordered the superb or I would have traded most other things off for the colour!

Mine is in with the dealer next week, reload the software and any updates, and then try again (I'll let you know)

Dropped it at the dealer this morning,  and discussed with the service adviser. Patch first, if that doesn't work, it's a new ECU module that fits behind the Infotainment screen. Exactly as described by John D. Armed with this info, I got Skoda UK involved and got a loan car out of the dealer and hopefully sometime next week I'll have the car back.  I'll report back
