Contract Hire / Lease

Featured Replies

Anyone any recommendations for this - personal use not business.

Dunno where to start tbh since i've never done it before.

jamjar.com seem quite reasonable, but the choice of lease cars is quite limited.

I did a comparison between buying (using their finance) and leasing, the leasing worked out cheaper.

Unless things have changed, I think you can only do it as a business and are regestered for VAT

What Car always has a good section on it - might be worth a nosey.

I looked at leasing the Z rather than buying. But at £395 a month it was a little expensive. Hwever I'd consider it for a different car.

I'd consider a PCP, should be similar monthly figures, but gives you the option to buy it at the end, or take advantage of any equity it may have, and there's no VAT involved

Thanks - will have a poke at those.

Looking at a freelander.

Buying an older one for about 8K gets you a 51plate. But 8k over 4 years is £194... I suppose there's the benefit of owning it this way.

That's why i thought personal contract hire. Can get a new un (new style) for circa 300squid i think....

Hmm... Any other 4x4 recommendations (apart from the skody ;))

If you're looking at a Freelander, make sure you get servicing and warranty stuff all covered 100% on the PCP payments.

Leaking tail lights, creaks, groans, door sthat dont close propperly etc. are all faults I've heard of on the 2 Freelanders I know of.

Nissan X-Trail?

RAV4?

The X-Trail gets my vote too. It'll be bullet proof compared to Freelander reliability/build quality.

I've heard nothing but bad about Freelander reliability.

If you are looking at a Freelander avoid the 1.8 petrol. The K series engine eats head gaskets and obviously the mpg aint that great either. The 2.0 TD4 uses a bulletproof BMW engine with a sweet sounding turbo and bags of torque. It makes for a nicer driving experience altogether.

I'd definately be looking for a PCP or C.Hire if I was buying a Freelander...that way you don't have to own it at the end of the agreement!;)

As the Freelander is being replaced at the end of '06 / start of '07 I'd be looking at the RAV4, X-Trail and CRV or maybe even the Vitara..if you can put up with the noisy engine and terrible ride.

Whats the freelander being replaced with?

the Freelanders going to be replaced by an all new version...mini Disco in looks and apparently benefiting from the latest engines from Ford..so expect the excellent TDCi engines and maybe even the 2.5 Focus ST engine to be fitted..and of course the clever electronics from the Disco3 - terrain response etc

I'm sure they'll do a better job of the interior this time..things like a height adjustable drivers seat may actually appear on the new one:eek: ...and plastics that haven't come out of the FisherPrice factory;)
